I purchased a pair of Grado SR225i from swbf2cheater. It was a quick transaction, but with a fairly glaring snag: the headphones unexplainably smell like cigarette smoke as swbf2cheater says he doesn't smoke. Personally I want to give him the benefit of the doubt since none of his other sales have mentioned this, but all I know is the odor is unmistakable and encompassed the entirety of the headphones, including the cable.

I shampooed the pads that came with them (stock bowls and Sennheiser HD414 pads) in the sink and let them air dry in the sun for a couple of hours and then repeated that process. The Sennheisers and Grado pads were washed separately and after washing the water was dark and murky each time. I wiped down the headphones & cable with a isopropyl alcohol soaked microfiber cloth and it was soiled brown after a couple of passes. I then liberally sprayed a fresh microfiber cloth with cologne and wiped the headphones down and about an hour later they still smelled of smoke.

The headphones were supposedly only about 2 weeks old at the time of sale, so I couldn't see it getting that dirty naturally even with heavy use over such a short time period. I searched Head-Fi and the web and couldn't find any accounts of new Grados smelling like smoke, so I can't come to any other logical conclusion than smoke.

After none of my efforts were successful at eliminating the odor I requested a refund and offered to cover the return shipping, but swbf2cheater said that wasn't an option. My intention isn't to smear anyone's good name or "get back" or anything like that, I am just giving full disclosure on my experience and I tried many things to avoid coming to this conclusion. In the end, if I could go back in time I wouldn't do this transaction again.

Bought a pair of JVC HAS 700's from him. Pretty good deal.

Phones are of great quality, but I can't complain about the deal.
Kind of sent me a rude email telling me I had to give him feedback. Other than that, decent seller.
