Is it time for a revision?
Take away the post count, & the most prolific poster would be Skylab hands down.. He is the heart & soul of head fi.. I also like Duggeh's brutal honestly, minus the 280 bashing.. Writes great reviews, is very articulate, & has a well rounded vocabulary..

I respond in this manner because I've been named in person. (elsewise I might be more glib ¬ _¬)

My posting content isn't greatly different from Jahn or Edwood or Skylab or Duncan or X Y or Z in many respects. (I think). It's the who rather than the what that differenciates.

There is a difference though between two groups of high post count members. Perhaps three if one accounts for pre 2004/2005 members (2004/2005 seems to be when membership began to accellerate).

One group is of the posts and posts and posts. The other is of the hollow and spam and post and hollow and spam and posts and spam.

One looks at the participation of a high post member in drone, vaccuous or hollow threads in order to differencate.

Krmathis and DleeWebb and Ken36 have a greater proportion of posts in threads which run along lines of "what are you listening to/eating/drinking now" ilk, by comparison to other high post count members. But it takes a long term participation and reading of the forum to see where multitudinous other postings which are worth sweet FA occur. This is to what I reference previously. I do not want to exclude myself from this. I hold no holier-than-thou-attitude here.

But even this sprey-shot is an extremely unfair attempt at compartmentalisation. What about fine chaps like Milkpowder, who are well within the top posting list, but one would be at a difficulity to place such people compared to others. And thats without them having the majority of their posts contained within years past like Rick or Duncan.

Ultimately, the lesson which has to be taken is that post count of a user in and of itself means, ultimately, **** all. It is who that user is which matters. And it is time and familiarity with the members of the community, which is ever more difficult because of its ever increasing size (I appriciate this more as I am able to spend less time here), which matters. The more thouroughly you participate the better you know the site and its people and the better you know the better you can (hopefully) know properly.

No shortage of people who racked up a lot of posts in short time who were not worth as much in what they said as those who spoke but a fraction of that total. And I hold no illusions that I have more posts and say less which is worthwhile and education and contributary as others. Jagwire illustrates the former example and Spritzer illustrates the latter.

Also.

Yes. I hate the HD280.

The empty posting isn't quite as bad as it used to be. The Member's Lounge used to be nothing but worthless "__________ Game Thread" where you had to match something or other with a previous post. The mods deserve a lot of credit for shutting down most of those, however there are always several junk threads still going at any time.

If anyone wants a huge post count, it's easy to knock off 10-20 posts a day in the junk threads. I used to post in them, too. However, there was a similar discussion to this one some time back and several of us decided to knock it off. And I have. I wish more people felt the same way.

On another forum I used to post at, I probably averaged over 100 posts a day, easily double that when I was bored.

We all have our weak spots, Duggeh.
I personally think they're not too bad.
Duggeh must have heard a lemon produced on a Friday afternoon or Monday morning.

To which Duggeh hopefull will say
