Do you read the stickies? - Page 3

What's a sticky? Is that some kind of new term for pictures of naughty bits?
Nah, they seem like they would be boring.

I read the stickies back when I started, but haven't opened one in years.

I agree with a lot of the comments here - better highlighting, a condensed single "rules and information" sticky or subforum would be helpful to avoid clutter, and I also think that the mods and admins should enlist members to help update and flesh out stickies that haven't been updated in years.

And how about those Terms of Use? There should be an effort made to get more people to read them. They're important.

Only the glossary of sound one (so I can understand wtf half of these audio people are talking about when they say "airy" etc). The rest aren't particularly useful

I think I've read most of them, and I did so before I joined. Not all feel relevant to me, like those on DBT rules, but on the other hand I'm very glad that I took myself the time to read through threads like Boo's ' Before you buy headphones' and Zanth's Grado interview.

I agree that the the sheer number of stickies might work in their disadvantage, but then again I don't see any obvious candidates for removal. Could it be possible to make all the stickies' titles a different, more attention leading colour?

I've read the stickies that looked interesting or relevant to my searches. Ignored stickies that didn't have anything to do with what I was looking for or interested in. I've moderated other forums with stickies, and they're the toughest thing to get people to read. Part of that comes from the fact that some folks find the whole message forum concept hard to take in; they have a hard time taking a forum "community" seriously. Don't read stickies. Don't know how to use a search. Take a negative reply too personal. etc. etc. Some of us who've participated and been involved with chat rooms, message forums, usenet groups, etc. since the mid-90s and earlier take a lot of this for granted I think, but for a lot of folks the whole concept of a message forum is messy, complicated, and a bit scary.

I agree with some of the others though. I'd really like to see some of the stickies updated and highlighted. Some could be trimmed and some could be added.

Oh, by the way, the search function does work (there's two search functions actually), and it works pretty well. The key is to use the advance search functions.

The search function also works better if your a contributor.

I read the stickies shortly after signing up. I rarely go into individual forums so I don't really notice them. I usually look at my User CP and New Posts.

Yes, I do.

This is quite true...at least for me. I too had little success using the search function after I let my contributor status expire. I renewed for the better search capability and the larger PM box.

Oh...and to support this fine community. Yeah.

I read all the stickies shortly after I joined the forum, but have to admit that I have not read all that those that have been added since then. Hopefully I have not missed out of anything very important.

I also agree to some comments above.
In some forums I think there are simply too many of them. Example the Headphones (full-size) forum with 10 sticky threads. Making an index sticky with links to them and make it stand out more could be one idea.
