Do you read the stickies?

I'm just wondering. It's seems a lot of useful information that's posted in them isn't getting through. There are great stickies in the headphone forum that if folks would take a minute to read them, they'd have their questions answered thoroughly, rather than starting a new thread on a topic that was already brought up five times in the past week. The rules are clearly posted in stickies the FS forums (no flipping, no discussion, etc), but it seems they're invisible to way too many members. Right at the top of this forum, there's a sticky on the no political, no religious discussion, but folks carry on daily. Is that that people don't read them, or is it that some folks don't really care. I'm genuinely curious.

I'm sure it helps some, but there are always those who don't do their homework before posting. In that regard, there are also those who don't even read the answers provided to them in their own thread. Heck, some will even fight with you when you provide them with what they want.

When I first came here I went through the stickies - they are there for a reason.

Mostly posts in threads, and people tend report them fairly quickly.

I wasn't just talking about that, but really there is a lot of useful information in the stickies, especially in the headphone forum, that doesn't seem to be getting out there. You certainly can't make anyone read anything they don't want to, but I find it strange that someone wouldn't want to.

I don't think I've read most of them and I've been here some time. When I first joined, i tried reading the big one in the headphone forum but it didn't help me. So I searched and read and searched and read for some time.

Then I started a thread, decided from what was in it to buy a DT990 and then bought an HD650.

Seems a long time ago.

2 problems.

* there's too many. it loses effect. there should be 3-5 max per area.
* they don't stand out enough. they need background highlighting or something.

maybe nothing gets through because half the page is stickies.

I didn't even know what a sticky was when I got here.

i don't.

I think that most people who care enough to read the stickies have been here long enough to know what is being. People who make a quick account can't be bothered to learn the rules/customs.

1. There's far, far too many stickies in some sections, which makes me (and probably most other) people just skim over them entirely.

2. Some of the rules are arbitrary. Why can't I make a religious or political thread in the "general" section? It just seems like we're being babied by the mods.

Eventually folks get around to it. They just want to participate in the community before really knowing how to ask a question.

We have such an educational following, set up a beginner's outline of stickies. Test out and you get to post.

I've thought it would be neat to set up components polls based on price brackets.

An example would be:

portable amps - $50 > $100 > $250 > $500 >

home amps tube (non DIY/current production)- $250 > $500 > $750 > $1000 >

Poll them down to a top 10 of each price range for each component with links to threads on them and a providing sponsor.

Hall of fame synergy setups

Most portable

Genre specialty setups

Silverback's vinyl relics

etc.

I read the titles and see which I should read.
