Who is your favorite headhphone manufacturer? or How I became a fanboy and learned to love the sound.

A fanboy sits in all of us. I'm all about my Xbox 360 (PS3 blows). My PC is (and has been) a Hewlett Packard. I love my Jetta. But, I still don't have a headphone brand that I swear by, though it seems as if many people here have.

Who is your company? Who is it, that you swear by, day and night? What was the headphone that turned a simple purchase into a full blown love affair?

PS --> I'm not trying to create a "screw you" flame war. I'm just wondering where your loyalty lies

To me, brand loyalty is stupid. I currently have:
ED8 Ultrasone
DT880 beyerdynamic
ESW9 ATH
RS1 Grado
PX100 Sennheiser
E2C Shure

Why would anyone want to stick with just one brand, in almost anything?

Pick a football team and support them instead.

Blind brand royalty might be stupid, but based on years of good experience usually builds a good relationship with them.

I have not tried any custom DIY builders, so no praise or brand royalty for me.

As for the commercial companies, I like..

PS Audio
Woo Audio
Donald North Audio
Meier
CIAudio
Sennheiser

Hence my question. I'm sure most people on here support many great companies. But I'm sure there are those who have repeatedly rewarded you with good sound, becoming your go-to can, go to brand, and the ones you recommend to others.

I cannot pick a favorite. I like different manufacturers for different reasons.

Plus, I've only started to scratch the surface, so to speak. I think it's ok to be a fanboy... to each his/her own.

Stax for me.
They have made some stunning headphones in the past (SR-Omega, SR-007, SR-Lambda Signature, SR-X/MK3 Pro, ...) and still make some great ones (SR-007MK2, 4070, SR-404 Limited, ...).

There are other vendors I rank high as well, but none that deliver(ed) like Stax throughout all the years and most of their line-up.

I'm still exploring the various brand offerings. Becoming a brand fan and hence purchasing and listening to a lot of that brand doesn't broaden the horizons.

Well dunno about brands but Ultrasone is guilty of some damn good headphones that for sure in the Pro 900 and Ed 8 particularly. I see myself more of a fanboy of individual headphones rather then some brand but of course when you have a company that produces such headphones so different and yet so amazing you can´t help but be intrigued what they will come up with next.

suppose I am a PC fanboy as well. Console gaming is so limited in it´s capabilities still to mod, controls, etc But same here it´s the games that matter in the end and there is certainly great games on consoles that isn´t released on PC too. Thus I own a Wii, PS 3 and Xbox 360 despite very limited spare time lol

It is more like brand disloyalty to me. I've discovered that I'm not crazy about Denon or Ultrasone. Bose and Skullcandy go without saying.

I've found headphones I love from every other manufacturer, though.

I am not too sure if i agree with this statement. In a way i can see where you are coming from. I am a fan of a house sound. So i like the way that grad, ultrasone, yuin etc make my music sound.

But i still wanna try some other companies and see how they make my music sound.

I just realized that I currently don't own any headphones from the two companies I like best! That's pretty funny.

I love Sony for what they've done (R10, 010), but dislike what they have available now. I just sold my R10s in favor of my O2 rig, but there were a lot of factors considered in the sale, and they're still my favorite dynamic headphone ever. Still, if looking at just those two headphones (R10, Qualia) and comparing them to anything out there ever, Sony's still tops in my book.

Sennheisers has consistently made true audiophile headphones: HE90, HE60, HD800, HD650, HD600, HD580, and other than the 'stats, I've owned and loved them all.
