Ear(canal)s overly sensitive to all kinds of buds...

So no. I picked up a pair of discount Shure SE210 yesterday and am quite irritated by the buds.
Shure sure is very generous to have provided such a big pack of buds... but none of them work right. The silicone ones would hurt after some 30 minutes. The foam ones are more comfortable but I couldn't bear them for more than an hour. It feels like an expanding pain... like a balloon that tries to get bigger in my earcanals.
Don't get me wrong: I quite enjoy these as my first pair of IEM's but the comfort is a serious issue. I saw on the Web that some Vaseline / pain-killing gel may help... hmm, sticky stuff over silicone...
Any solutions, please? Or are IEM's simply not for me? I've been wearing full-size and earpads for... ever.

You should try some of the comfort tips before you give up (i.e. comply). The shure foam tips have always been a little big (I can't even imagine who would use the large black foam ). I feel you on the silicone tips, I never really liked them myself. If IEMs don't work for you, maybe you could get some good buds.

there is also a thread here about how you can make your own tips for Shure IEMs (since they have a smaller nozzle).

That worked a lot better than complys for me.

It might take a few days to get used to the sensation. I remember wearing a turtleneck for the first time, ouch. It was not an issue in a week.

also klipsch gels work on them

I was never completely comfortable using universal IEMs. The comply foam tips are among the most comfortable. But if you can afford it, I recommend getting custom molds. They are far and away more comfortable and make using IEMs a pleasure. As far as I know, you can get custom earmolds for Shure IEMs without going through the expense of the full custom IEM.

I got the same sensation when I returned to IEM's after 2 years of not listening. It feels to me more like the canal is cracking or tearing at a microscopic level, but I think it has to happen in order for the silicone tip to fit right. The ear canal in very sensitive, and is not use to having the added pressure. I do not have pressure problems with the Comply tips because the foam is not forcing expanding pressure.
