Newbie wants help with closed can under $100

Hi guys,
as I told in the title, I'm not that kind of headphone expert. So, I'm here to ask for your help. I'm willing to buy a supraaural/circumaural with closed cans, under $100. I've been searching about that, and it looks Sennheiser HD201 is the best option... It sounds better than HD202 and HD212 has melting and bothering basses.
I'm almost decided to buy the 201, but I'd like to know if there's any other option. People say the Grado's have a really great sound, but I really prefer closed cans. Is there any other headphone which is better than HD201 and is worth the cost?

Im sorry, I have not heard the HD201, but I recommend you check out the Shure SRH440s. I have heard them, and think they are absolutely wonderful for under $100. What kind of music do you mainly listen to? And will these be for home or portable use?

I will use them at home, on the computer. I'd also like to know if I need to buy an amp or something like that. I generally listen to rock... So, I think there's no need to have an overwhelming bass headphone like Senn HD212.

Do the SRH440 worth its price? The Senn HD201 is way cheaper, but I'm able to pay a bit more. Thank you

My first pair of headphones is the Sony MDR V6. It was a semi gamble, but overall the MDR V6 was well recommended. By a stroke of luck I found one second hand with some marks of use but still good.

I did a lot of research by reading. Testing is the best way if you like 'good' sound. One thing though, do you listen to your music from CD or mp3 (etcetera)?

For if you mainly listen to your music from CDs you should consider headphones regarded for their good sound quality.

Yeah, I've read about MDR-V6 too, but it looks Senn HD201 is better... Am I wrong?

I generally listen to high quality MP3 or FLAC (lossless)... I think FLAC has the same quality as in the CDs.

You can do MUCH better than the HD201 for $100. You should look into the Denon D1001/Creative Aurvana Live!, the Audio Technica ATH-M50, the Shure SRH440 and the Sony MDR-V6/7506.

Yeah, I know, but I live in Brazil and the shipping makes everything even more expensive. Also, I'm afraid of spending all that money on these headphones and getting disappointed with it

I have heard the Shure SRH440 many times. I definitely think they are worth the price. I was considering buying them, but actually just bought their bigger brothers because I had the money for them. The 440s are excellent phones, especially for the price. Also, I just noticed your avatar, and I love that album. I think music like that works well with the 440s.

Cause those are miles better than the HD201

Hm, I'll see if I can get it. It's a bit expensive, but I'll take a look. I mostly listen to bands like My Bloody Valentine, so, if it works well with this kind of music, I'll be satisfied.

thats more or less subjective.

All of them are good options. I would probably go for the one I can get the cheapest.

I have the Denon D1001's and like them alot.

I would imagine that the SRH440's are the best out of the lot, but I've never heard them, so I don't know.

The ATH-M50's are bassy.
The Denon's don't isolate well.
The Shure's aren't very bassy.

Sony MDR-XB700 are detail-lacking, but have good strong bass response. Senn HD280, Grado SR60i

No; your PC will have enough amplification for the SRH440.
