So I tried creating my own music and...

...it surprisingly turned out pretty decent... i think.

I cooked up an artist and album name as well to play around with.

Archistratege (demo) - free to stream in full @ last.fm

Recorded using a guitar, an amp & a distortion pedal. All software used is freeware.

I'm actually planning to rework it a bit as there are still things I don't like (the intro being too plain and long, for starters) The way it is in my head, there should be seven tracks and this is the first.

Feel free to tell me what you think: Good? Bad? Meh? Sounds too much like something you've heard before? Too long? Too short? Too simple? Etc... etc... etc... anything goes.

(all free to stream in full or download in lossy/lossless formats)

01 - Archistratege
02 - Six-Hundred Wings (Covered the Horizon)
03 -
04 - Over Thunder and Terror
05 -
06 -
07 -

Just for fun, folks. Cheers!

Happy New Years! I think I liked it as a baseline. I think you need an escape at some point since it does get repetitive. But since it's just a start, you may already have that in mind.

Good job.

Well I agree the intro is very long. I think you could get funky with the drums there and spice it up quite a bit. You could definitely do a little more with the repeating guitar part, because for the first half of the song it doesn't even change. I like what you did with the spacey guitars though, it really works. I think it would help a lot just to condense the song to about 3 minutes, because at 6 minutes it really seems to drag on.
It's not really my style of music, but I can't complain-it's not up to me.
Yeah, sorry if I'm too critical. I write a lot of music on my own, so I can sometimes be a pretty harsh critic when it comes to music. Honestly I love to hear what other people have been working on, it definitely gives me some perspective. Keep it up!
Also, just curious, were you planning to add vocals? Because that would definitely give the song a lot more life.

^ Yup, I think the song needs some more melodic counterpoints and drum fills to make it work better although I'm quite happy with how it's developing as it is. I was thinking of maybe playing around with my old keyboards if I could find it and put that through my distortion pedal to see what I come up with.

Although I'll stick with the song length and instrumental approach I'm a big fan of post-rock and songs that take a while to develop... I'm not much with the words, and certainly not at all with the voice

Thanks for the criticism. It's very welcome.

I like it a lot! I wish that you added some more themes (or shortened the song length), but if you added a few counters, I think that it could develop quite nicely.

EDIT: Also, watch the tuning. There's one note that sticks out to me.

well I'm glad I can help. I guess I didn't really get what you were trying to do with it, but now that I know that it's supposed to be kind of post-rock, I really like how you started it. I can't wait to hear the final product!

Got sidetracked with this project for a while since some gear broke down, I waited for replacements and then some... Although in that span of time, I was able to create a bandcamp account and cook up potential cover art:

In any case, I eventually got back to playing with my toys and came up a simplish, mellower, bit more experimental track:

That link sends you to the bandcamp page where you can either stream the track or download it in various lossy/lossless formats.
