Need help regarding Sound Card and HD555

Hi guys.. I just have joined this wonderful forum ..
actually I own HD555 and presently i have an onboard audio i.e. Supreme X-fi ( i have a Asus rampage II gene motherboard) .. so i wanted to upgrade my sound card.. and also i have a budget of around 100-120$ (USD)...So what should I buy??

It depends on if you play games and enjoy the gaming effects or if you just listen to music and/or watch movies. If it's the latter, then you should get an external DAC/Amp which may be hard to find in that budget. There's plenty of Creative gaming-style sound cards in that price range though...

Having heard the 555s I would upgrade those first before getting a DAC or soundcard.

I recommend an external USB DAC such as the Zero DAC , Nuforce uDAC , Musiland 01, Muisland 02US which should be in your price range.

Even with HD555, i still believe there is a good benefit getting a source upgrade

well..if I change the HD555 .. then what should I buy under 200$ (USD) ?? beacuse I'll have to sell my headphones first and then I'll be left with 200$ or so..

AT M50, AD700, A700 perhaps. You can also look out for used pairs of HD650's or K701's for around 200.

..... then he'd have headphones that he can't drive and no money.. and still the same crap source.

Good advice in this thread.. :thumbsup:

Used total bithead's are around that price so I'd recommend that. Then get a headphone upgrade down the line.

I was kind of in the same boat. Grados for me personally are hot sex for ur ears and very easy to drive-I gotta pair of 125i and there awesome-wanna upgrade though. I came from a pair of senny 595 a d were t that great. As far as Dac amps the only experience I have is a xonar essence with 2x lme49720ha and they are great. Have yet to e,perience an external tube amp and the such. The poster above is correct-eventhough mine are easy to drive,and don't. Necessarily need to be-I couldn't imagine my grados unamped. That being said, if you get a pair that need. Some extra power ur screwed-get an amp first.
