Uhmm. Have I missed something? I got the idea from reading the SH canon again that Holmes was *not* a laconic, reticent, and modest confessor of his own intellectual and investigative successes. No, in fact I recall that the only thing that pleases him more than the astonished confusion of professional bystanders who cannot fathom how he solved the case is the occasion this provides to triumphantly explain in minute detail all that they missed but that he observed.

X 2.

I also rather enjoyed the movie. Law was ok but in general I thought it was quite good and fun. Not the best movie I have seen this year, but still - a rather entertaining flick!

That's what she said...

Anyways I didn't fall for the advertisement I thought it didn't look that good anyways, maybe if it comes on HBO or something
Glad i'm not missing anything

What a waste. Jude Law decided to check his considerable acting ability at the door. Why?

They made so little out of so much raw material and talent. The "I'll tell you at the end how it all worked" is stolen right from The Illusionst.

Mark Strong as Lord Blackwell was, well, strong! Stole more than one scene.

That is how it was done in the books, it's all laid out in the end with Holmes' usually level detail of how the various crooks and so and so on's did their work. That is.....usually how it's done in most mystery stories so it is a touch hard to try and change that part of the formula.

I enjoyed it. More so then Avatar.

Agreed.

I just watched it yesterday and felt it was a great, entertaining movie. Definitely better than Avatar.

I was referring more to how they explain how he's going to win fist fights.

Seem's like one of those "you either like it or you don't" movies. I'll definitely be going this monday to check it out for myself.

This was such an anti-climatic movie for me. Growing up reading the Arthus Conan Doyle novels, I guess I should have anticipated as such...guy ritchie as director should have been an even larger sign for doom...

btw, could watson really kick ass in the books?
i read lots of them but that was such a long time ago, and i do not remember correctly.
in the movie, watson was kicking some asses and i thought something was wrong with it.

The very first story, where Holmes and Watson meet for the first time, Holmes deduces that Watson had served a few terms with the military out in Afghanistan. Pretty sure that any individual serving with a major military at that time could reasonably kick some ass if need be

Watson and Holmes are both reasonably/exceptionally strong and are versed in some forms of martial arts such as boxing and baritsu. Both are capable of kicking ass in the books and have done so on occasion. I haven't had a chance to see this movie yet, but from what I've heard, a lot of people who didn't like it argued that it was because Holmes is supposed to be an intellect and not a fighter. Personally, that's only going to bother me if the movie takes it over the top which I haven't seen yet.

I didn't find it boring, but sadly, rather predictable. And Downeys' cccent was all over the place. Pretty much changed from scene to scene..
WAY too much emphasis on action for my tastes.
