It was a long time ago but I quit college after 2 years to become a professional race car driver. Although I never made it big I had some great experiences and never regretted it for one minute. Fast forward a few decades and my son it turns out is a very gifted cellist. He was always fascinated with England so I encouraged him to follow his dream and audition to study at the Royal College of Music. He got in and at 18 he packed his bags and moved to London. He loves it!

In the early 80s, I got totally trashed at a Halloween party. A friend said "Let's go to Guatemala!" Without pausing to think, I said, "Sure!" Two days later, with $1000 and a few things in a book bag, we took off and managed to stay gone, traveling through Central America, for just over a year. It was a great experience.

I'm a pretty shy person, and I asked a girl out who was my best friend at the time. I was freaked out that if she didn't want to go out with me it'd make things really weird and awkward, ruining the great friendship we had. She said she just wanted to be friends. In the end the exact opposite happened. We became even more comfortable with each other and better friends.

That's a ridiculously stupid thing to do.. But still, epic respect.

Although I trust my brother with my life I don't think I could do that. I'd be too worried that something out of his control would cause problems and that I'd fall to my death, lose my life and ruin his.

Indeed Wayne, more guts than I. Wow!

When I was in the Navy, I was on board a sub rescue/salvage ship. They were certifying systems during my time there. They wanted volunteers to certify the DSRV (deep submergence rescue vehicle) to a depth of one mile. We were just live load for the cert.

Boom, I admire your intrepid lifestyle. I wish I would have done that.

Am I the only one who wants some more detail from santa's story? The most salient point would by WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU JUMP OUT OF A PLANE WITHOUT A PARACHUTE?!?!

Or, you know, some other details and stuff...

I did that once. We don't talk after that though.

Oh man, I could fill an entire thread with all my epic fails that started off that way.

biggest risk so far? hmmmm

One time, at band camp (no i'm not joking), Istarted to get to know the cute girl. Being our last year ( we were both seniors in hs), we sat around the "senior bonfire" and really got close. On the last day of camp, I got the guts and asked her out on a date once we get back.

An awesome bus ride home and 8 years laster, we are engaged, and I have no regrets!

Went to Bogota and Cartagena during the height of the Pablo Escobar drug war against the Government and the Army...talk about a dodgy god damn place...Must admit Wayne's sky trip beats mine by a hair on the pure adrenalin front but a pimply faced kid with a AK47 shoved in your back at 3AM outside a dive in Caratgena is a rush too...Let's just say I wished I was anywhere but that spot at the time....managed to bribe my way out of that one...what's a few hundred US dollars in such a spot ?

Boo...going to Latin America in the 80's was also a daring prospect. The Sandinista rebels, Daniel Ortega, the death squads...yeesh.

Peete.
