if the photo is 'for hire' it will always be raw, from me.

informal shots will almost always be jpg.

and again, I'd challenge you (I know you're into photog) to tell the diff on a PROPERLY done print (much less a screen view).

1/1.6" is larger than 1/1.7"
while it is not exactly "tiny", i do like my s90 very much

Im now in the market for my first DSLR. Main uses will be for family stuff, video clips and graphic design assets (in that order) So far the contenders are:

Canon T1i
Nikon D5000
Pentax Kx

anyone with experiences with these models? revolink24, did you do any comparisons of these other models to your pentax? Ive read some great things about the Kx. The one drawback seems to be the battery life. I think the white looks pretty spiffy....they also have RED!

Whenever in doubt I check the website of Ken Rockwell.

I have an old and simple Fujifilm Finepix S6500 fd. 6.3 MP with a 28-300mm Fujinon lens which is pretty good for a zoomlens regarding light sensitivity, F2.8! It's a hybrid camera with a fixed lens. Slightly slower than my old Nikon F65. If possible I'll buy a Nikon D40, D90 or D700 for my old film lenses.

I have no experience with any of those cameras, but I advice you to not put too much weight on batterylife as a deciding factor in your decisionmaking. No matter what camera you end up with, a fully charged spare battery carried in your pocket will be your most valuable asset.

That's a really solid setup. Right now I'm in the process of converting to film-only for serious photography - I'm soon picking up a Hasselblad 500 C/M and a lens or two - but I still have a D200 floating around that gets occasional use. Luckily most of the lenses I originally bought for it are still compatible with my more-often-used FM.

I agree, if you know what you're doing and/or have the time to get a perfect exposure or light the subject perfetly, and shoot high quality jpg, the print would not show the difference. But digital is so finiky, I feel that even a half stop over/under can be pretty bad. Unlike film, where you can pull detail out of anything. So I like RAW mostly so I have more latitude for bright skies and less than perfect exposures. Peace of mind!
