Can i play Dvd-a or sacd w/ macbook pro? I have a brand new one with dvd/cd writer combo. I am assuming dvd-a will work in it with no problems.

I don't know about DVD-A. And that's because I've been lazy. I have a MacBook and DVD-A discs and haven't stuck one in yet. It should read the DVD-A but I don't know if you'll get hi-rez output. If someone knows, please fill us in.

On the other hand, SACD will not play in hi-rez on a MacBook. SACD is a different layer that needs a different laser to read it. Unfortunately, I don't think any computer will read SACD save for a few specially equipped Sony models that I don't think are in production any longer.

However, you can read the Red Book (regular CD) layer on a MacBook or any other CD player if the SACD is a hybrid disc. So, no hi-rez. But I have ripped all my hybrid SACDs and they do sound good. Not as good as the SACD player, though.

Wish I had read this before I bought a cart load of SACD...
