HD 25-1 II or ESW9?

I've gone through an array of different can/amp/IEM configurations for my office listening. The amp/can setup became a PIA when my workload picked up and I was constantly in and out of my chair. Taking the headphones one and off became a total drag.

So then I thought IEMs. I was constantly plugged in, but my coworkers (while out 'n about filing, making copies, etc) never new I couldn't hear them unless they looked directly at my ears. I'm sure more than one person called me a rude bastard as I didn't respond when they said something to me in passing. And, besides, whenever I did talk to folks, having to take them in/out became, again, a PIA.

I then decided to bring my MDR V6 to use. Works well enough out of my iPod and sounds pretty good. When out 'n about, people know that I'm plugged in. And, if I need to take them off, it's pretty easy.

Since I've decided having a portable can is the way I want to go in my office, I've looked around for something better (aren't we all?). Through my research, I've come to the conclusion that I'll probably go for either the HD25 or ESW9.

And here's where I need your help. I listen primarily to Jazz; it'll be used specifically in my office environment (read: quiet so isolaton isn't an issue); an amp will not be used, ever. So it's gotta sound pretty decent straight out of an iPod at a comfortable listening volume.

So, which is the better fit for me, do you think? I know the price is a bit different, but I've found a site that I can get the HD25 for a buck-seventy-five, shipped and the ESW9 for two-eighteen, shipped. I've read about the fake AT's, but this online retailer is a reputable giant and if by some slim chance it does turn out to be a fake, I can return it no problem.

Please help.

Thanks.

As in all things Head-Fi, I'm sure you'll get recommendations on both.

I owned both phones, side by side, for a long time and listen almost exclusively to Jazz. When I came to realize that I listened to the HD 25-1 II constantly and hadn't picked up the ESW9 in several months, well, it was goodbye to the ESW9.

My HD 25-1 II is one of a very few cans I've ever owned and used heavily where there is absolutely nothing that I don't like or that annoys me. Sound, comfort, build - it's all there. Works great from any of my unamped sources (iPhone, Shuffle 2G (all 5 of 'em), Sansa Clip) and even better out of real amps (Pico, GS-1.)

If you go that way, make sure it includes the velour pads, superior IMO. Research cable replacement as well - just $15 worth of Sennheiser, not $200 boutique. Check my other posts for my cable pics...

I hope your decision works out well...
