Narrowed Down, still need help deciding

I've narrowed it down to these headphones

Beyerdynamic DT770pro
HD 25
HD 280

Budget is somewhat of a concern but not a big issues. Looking at something with a good mix of clear base and clear vocals that have noise cancelling properties.

Open to more suggestions.

Thanks

What types of music are you particularly fond of? I found that the DT770 was a more specialized headphone. For some genres, it was a very good bang/buck headphone, sometimes with very few alternatives. In other genres, you would be better off with many, many other sets of phones. Lots of bass, well rounded highs, but the mids are something I found to be very lacking. That is essentially my 2 cents from my experience.

Basically, giving us some music interests will definitely narrow down your options and give you the best fit for your budget.

I typically listen to a wide range of music. I find myself mostly listending to hip hop, alternative, and classical.

have you look into the shure SRH440's or SRH840's?

I did a quick search of SRH840s and it seems like they are getting better marks than the HD-25 but haven't found any specifics on why they are better

You should inform yourself about the Sennheiser HD380. In the Netherlands a HD280 sets you back 100 euros. A HD380 will set you back 130 euros which is a small difference. If you are lucky enough to be in a similar situation, the HD380 is very tempting. Those headphones really are on my for-the-future-wishlist.

I would drop the Beyerdynamic DT770 pro,no mids to much bass.

I would definitely cross the 280's off your list, I was very disapointed with their comfort and sound when unamped. I've read a lot of good reviews of the HD 25's as well as the srh 840's, I would think either of those are a good choice.

Disagree. Some people, myself included, enjoy them. I think rather than tell someone to completely ignore a headphone based on our own personal preferences, we should just inform him of what the sound is like and what types of music these headphones cater to.

The DT770s can have too much bass for some people, but for others, they find the sound "fun". Any sufficient solid state amp should be able to control these cans with ease. If you decide you want them, buy them from a place that has a good return policy in case you do determine that the sound is not for you.

I too briefly owned the HD280s, and found them to be pretty flat and boring sounding. However, this was without an amp, and the headphones didn't really have sufficient burn-in before they were returned. I didn't purchase an amp until after I had already returned them, so I can't make a fair judgment of them. A few people here and there like them, but odds are you will not enjoy them. But as with anything, if you have the opportunity to hear them, you can make that judgment for yourself.

HD25, or HD25-1 II to be more specific.

hd 25-1 II is what I was looking at sorry for the confusion. I am definitely going unamped so I do need something that will sounds good with an ipod/home receiver

If you want bass, then I'd advise against the 280s. Their sound is pretty flat but they isolate extremely well.
