How cool would it be if...

a real life Zombie breakout happened? I'm on some constipation medication that's awfully messing with my stomach and i am up at 6 am not being able to sleep. I guess you start dozing off when you're on the drugs! =P Anyways, just something to talk about. I apologize if someone else already beat me to the punch with this subject.

Well, here is how i would take a crack at it for the place i live which is Des Moines, IA.

Firstly, I would take my family and drive to bob browns chevrolet, and "borrow" a Chevy Silverado. They have great traction, high horsepwer, can carry a family of 6. That's not including the bed of the truck. Secondly, is getting armed. For us it would be Jordan Creek Malls Scheels. They literally have every weapon you can think of along with substantial amounts of ammo. And here is a list for what i'd do so it's easier to follow.

Transportation: 2010 Chevy Silverado.

Weapons:
Main - Twin Silenced 9mm for easy transportation since they don't wiegh a lot
Secondary: Bow. as silent as it gets. and of course rifles for long range sniping. also 12 gauges, magnums, assault rifles if we really need to pack the power.

Shelter: Grocery store off 2nd avenue for locals to get an image. =P
It's great because there's access to the roof for scouting/lookouts, has enough food for at least the next 5 years. has refrigeration, stoves, whatever to prepare food.
Not only do the doors lock, but there are gates behind them which also lock for greater security. This also applies to all windows. The entire east side is surrounded by barbed wire fence, which does have a gate, this is also where the loading dock is. great for unloading any supplies with maximum security.

once we get settled down it's best to hold our ground and wait it out. The hardest part would be getting armed, and new transportation. Since we'd have to start out with scratch and household items. Since noone in the family hunts we won't have the luxury of weapons at hand. at best it would be long metal bars and baseball bats. i do have a sword which would be handy also. a backup plan would be the urbandale police station or the johnston one for weapons.

wow i hate not being able to sleep. this is the kinda sh!! i do out of pure bordom.

I do remember something of this nature but nonetheless its fun
Have actually been thinking about this too.

Transportation.
This would be my trusty Vmax motorcycle. Gets me everywhere. Will probably mount some spikes on the bike and mod so it can be used to transport weapons. Perhaps leave the passenger seat as is for, well, a passenger.

Arms.
Zombies are slow and don't have ranged attacks. Also i'm training with swords and not at all proficient with firearms so I'm going melee mostly. Dual machetes, either traditional 24" or kurki as they seem to be more effective for this purpose. Also a japanese katana, i'll have to drive by my teacher to grab one of his swords as he has numerous that are sickly sharp.
Maybe even get a tomahawk or small axe.
For some distant work or when zombies are evolving and start spitting, im gonna grab my uncles bow. Rifles need ammo and ammo is heavy. Arrows should be lighter and can even be crafted.
Not much as a weapons but i will never leave the place without my trusty multitool, buck knife and pocket flashlight.

As a general note, Cold Steel has everything you need for a zombie attack.

Shelter.
Whatever comes on the path. Blasting the roads on my bike there will be no base of operations. I prefer to roam, mad max style but with a bike instead of a car.

I'd fill my backpack with what I needed and get out on my trusty road bike with any companions I could find, we know plenty of isolated areas. Since it's the UK weapons would be difficult to find, a farm would be the best bet.
Assuming adequate people, skills and supplies I'd steal a boat from any number of near seaside towns.

Zombie apocalypse wish-list:
Solar panels+wind turbine for electricity - a zombie apocalypse won't stop a head-fiers fave hobby
^(farm house duh, middle of a field a mile from a town (with an ammo factory duh, with a tower/windmill)
Machine guns, assault rifles, two revolvers and uzis, sawn of shotguns and a sniper rifle. chainsaws, katanas, axes, machetes, and the various farm equipment that doubles as weaponry.
Two barns full of ammo and supplies.
A hummer.
Modified combine harvester for obvious reasons.
Flamethrower.
In situations like that you need two of everything replacable.
Nice thread dude.

ofcourse! A flamethrower. Best weapon against the undead is still fire. Will have to come up with a way to mount a flamethrower on the bike....
Don't forget to watch Resident Evil: Extinction. Its basicly a zombie fighting tutorial.

Transportation: I would get a 4 door Jeep Wrangler, of course all jacked up and wench and all that jazz.

I would head to a larger city because there would be more food and survivors. I would take up in a mall maybe. (Just like Dead Rising ) I would get all of the ammo and weapons I need. I would also rig the perimeter with tons of explosives. Just in case I need a back up plan :P.

Who says zombies don't have ranged attacks? What if they blow your brains out with a shotgun in order to eat them more easily?

Pack all the firepower you can. Get an M1A1 Abrams or Humvee (not hummer) for transportation. lol
You might also want to find a bomb shelter. I do not recommend a flamethrower, it may prove effective but the fires may spread and cause even more damage, maybe even surround you.

Get a BFG9000 for those desperate moments when you are up against a corner and they are closing in on you.
If all else fails, make your way to the UK mainland and find Alucard =P

Yes, it will be easy to find the jet fuel for the Abrams... Only 3 Gallons/mile! Also, Sabot rounds are super effective against zombies.

I would imagine any sword combat (as suggested above) to be fairly tiring after hours of fighting, hence ranged it has to be. Anything automatic should suffice, some grenades perhaps. Humvee and of course a storage place for all the canned food and nutrients you will need to save for yourself, after all who's going to produce new food ? Perhaps some hunting equipment and a fishing rod would be intelligent to carry along.

LOL, i like the idea of the katana. Light sword with great range. I would only use this if i were to make an escape and need quick offense. by the way i'm not thinking of resident evil slow stand there like an idiot zombie, i'm talking 28 days later charge at you like a crazy freak zombie.

thanks, glad some people liked it.

Protective gear will be essential if there are raging infected zombies among them. Remember how the virus spreads in 28 days later?
I'd use a lawnmover strapped to my chest like in Dead Alive.
Chainmail and a chainsaw.

All I would need to defend myself during a zombie apocalypse is a plastic bag, some string, and a rubber band.

Anyone read The Walking Dead? It's a great series.
