Doubly saddening as I just saw'em live barely three weeks ago...

...*Sigh*...

We will make more information available according to the wishes of Vic’s family and friends.

Very sad. I recently heard his interview on NPR's Fresh Air and had resolved to pick up some of his work and maybe catch him live one of these days. At least I can still listen to his recordings.

A great loss to the music community as well as his friends and family.

Same here. I had heard of him before, but after hearing that interview I made an effort to search out his material. It was a very sad interview when he was talking about all his medical bills and things like that.

Sad news indeed.
Saw him live at a festival in the Netherlands, and own several of his albums.

A sad thing, but apparently Chesnutt was a very sad man. I can't recall which of the first two albums it was on (it's the one with "Soft Picasso"), but I haven't forgotten Chesnutt's musical adaptation of Stevie Smith's "Not Waving But Drowning."

Nobody heard him, the dead man,
But still he lay moaning:
I was much further out than you thought
And not waving but drowning.

Poor chap, he always loved larking
And now he’s dead
It must have been too cold for him his heart gave way,
They said.

Oh, no no no, it was too cold always
(Still the dead one lay moaning)
I was much too far out all my life
And not waving but drowning.

yep ^ ...that was the song I played first when I heard. It's from Little, his first one. I'm probably going to pick up one of his new ones this week too...Skitter on Take Off (I think its called) w/ just him and Jonathan Richman and a drummer or At the Cut with the Silver Mt. Zion crew backing him up...not sure which one yet. Anyone have either of these yet?
RIP
