The Sennheiser IE8 or the Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10? You decide:
Here's a quick review from my experience owning these IEMs.
Firstly I would like to note that I have owned the IE8 for about a year now, and the TF10 for only a day.
Fit/Comfort
I prefer using the Comply Foam Tip for both Earphones as they provide a snug fit; the silicone tips just pop up seconds after I put them on,
The IE8s' shape fit the ear more smoothly: if using the silicone ear tips they sit flat on the ear, if using the Comply Foam tips, they stick out about 1/4cm.
The TF10s' shape is a joke, it sticks out making it easy to fall off with a simple nudge, but this is only my opinion.
Overall, they both are comfortable when put on right.
Sound
(sorry not really good at describing highs meds lows, anyone wanna help, please post and I'll update my opinions,
)
The IE8s have been burned in for quite a bit now, I have used it nearly everyday for ~4+ hours per day since the day I got it(about a year ago), I have also burned it in for a couple hours.
The IE8s have crisp and clear vocals/treble; the bass is deep and can get loud, and brings many sound unheard from other audio devices.
The TF10s have a muddier sound in vocals/treble, but the bass is a bit clearer and louder than the IE8s(Should be the opposite?
)
Appearance
The IE8s have a formal, black/silver logo, nothing too special, while the TF10s have a flashy style, (ex. when you put it on, they look like advertisements on both sides of your ears,
)
Build/Quality
I've read around that the IE8s' tips may fall off(can be superglued back in w/o voiding the warranty) while taking off the Comply Foam Tips, but this has never occurred to me.
For the TF10s, I recall reading somewhere about problems about the wires, but nothing has been a issue with it, yet..
The TF10s sport gold plated tips and also stiffer wiring at the top, for better fit(IE8s also do, they are detachable).
They both have detachable wiring, the IE8s have a thin and more flexible wire while the TF10s have a thick and a bit stiff wiring.
Packaging
The IE8s have a nicer packaging and appearance: a metal packaging with a flap that opens and reveals the Earphones and some of the ear tips.
They also use the earphone case as part of the packaging.
The TF10s packaging isn't as great as the IE8s', it's a simple card-stock box, with a plastic window in the front displaying the earphones and on the back, separate windows for each ear tip set, and a misalignedview of the metal case.
But the packaging shouldn't be considered when deciding between the two..
Case
The IE8 case is made of plastic with metal in the top and bottom. It is designed like a "cabinet" with a magnet in the back holding the "drawer" in. The case is organized and has slots for a dehumidifier/silica gel(on the back), 2 sets of extra ear tips, tool(ear wax cleaner/bass adjuster), and separate L/R spots for each earpiece with a "tunnel" that leads to a spot to coil the wire around, pretty neat.
The TF10 is just a basic metal case lined with rubber and fabric, I use the case for the earphones and sound attenuator
Accessories
The IE8 comes with ear "hooks" for a "better" fit, and a wide variety of different ear tips and sizes(10 total?).
The TF10 comes with 6 sets of different ear tips(2 pairs of Comply Foam Tips), extension cable, 1/4" adapter, and sound attenuator.
There you have it!!
Both earphones have their pros and cons.
I'll update this with pictures later on.
