What Makes A Good Headphone/IEM? /Noobs guide to being an audiophile

I'm interested in learning more about headphones + IEM's so instead of just purchasing what's recommended I can make some educated purchases on my own.

Is there a guide anywhere for this? What to look for in a headphone/IEM and how it effects the headphone etc.?

Sort of like a noobies guide to being an audiophile as the title states.

I'm not sure if it's that newbies here (I may even still consider myself one) are using a forum for the first time when they post stuff like this, but when you go on a headphone discussion forum, it helps to look in the headphones section. Those threads are stickied for obvious reasons.

Searching google for "Audiophilia for Dummies" didnt get much
Reading the stickies is a good start. Or spend ages dwelling here, you'll learn on the go.
