Wow are the PRO 750 really that good for gaming? I am expecting ALO-780 on Friday and I hope they are as good as you describe the 750 for gaming. That means I could possibly use it as my main music headphone and gaming headphone and sell my ATH-AD700 to fund for some beautiful Grado HF-2 I just hope I love the ALO-780 so I won't have to purchase the 750 or 900 plus Grado HF-2 and RS-1 vintage

Considering CSS is notorious for having bad positional audio, even when compared to older games like 1.6, I would argue they are excellent for gaming since they can produce such accurate sound with such a bad sourcecode. I am biased towards CSS because it is what I play the most, by a large margin too. So while I am attributing all of these pros to one game in particular, I did get Modern Warfare 2 for Christmas and have had a ball being called a cheater -due to an unfair sound advantage. It is most likely the easiest shooter in the world, but being able to hear the way I do now makes it all the better. From what I understand and have noticed the game has great positional audio from the start, but my scores would indicate I am hearing better :P nonetheless.

I will admit to having no experience with EAX or any other gaming audio DSPs people may have used. I have never owned a creative card, and never will. My soundcard is an Asus essence STX and it does support some gaming DSPs such as dolby headphone and 7.1 surround sound shifter etc, and on 2 channels alone it transcends these affects, without compromising the sound quality. The result is a much less dramatic, but much more effective surround sound sensation.

I don't want to over hype the headphone or appear to be a fanboy, but I am truly happy with them and amazed.

again, the surround sound is subtle, but thats what makes it so effective. Great positional effect with minimal effect on SQ.

Hope this helps. I also hope you enjoy your first Ultrasones the say way I am!

Thanks I use a Creative X-Fi Elite Pro. The positional audio etc is 9999x better than onboard, I can't hear enemies far away from me or behind corners with onboard, With the X-Fi, I can hear them from almost the other side of the map lol. I used to play Quake 3 and quit coz I got banned for supposedly wallhacking, aimbotting and using autofire. No, it was pure skill after playing for 2 years and my ATH-AD700 coupled with my X-Fi. Then I went onto Urban Terror and after 6 months, was being called even more of a hacker because I was owning some of the best Australian players that had been playing for over 5 years. I then got banned from the majority of popular Aussie servers so now I rarely game at all. I blame it on raging noobs who don't believe in that there's someone better than them Some dude who was an admin of the server said I wall hacked. He had his laser pointed at a wall in a dark map so I knew where he was all the time...nabs

Funny, considering the level some quake players are on, and what people are used to seeing in frag videos, I would have assumed the quake community was more exposed to people who are legitimately good at video games. I mean if you were playing CoD I could understand... but cs and especially quake.. common aha.

People do hate to admit people cand be and are better than them, much better. Just look at Cypher winning agaisnt Zero4 at quake con (07? 08?). The kid grew up watching Zero4, then beat him and then beat him again on his best map -one be was famous for. Goes to show there is ALWAYS someone better than you.

You should try quakelive, because you can't get banned if you aren't cheating ahaha. Too bad you live in AUS, or I live in CAN for that matter. Pings would make impossible to frag together.

Nah man. I always play in USA servers. like 2k10 dallas. I get about 210 ping there and high 200's in some bad USA servers. my skill doubles when playing in an aussie server though. I used to be in the clan bRo but I ended it with sparky. I used to play against members in [i], sBs, #te, ex eRa members etc. I was actually really good about a year ago, but I look like a 6 month break and am a lot worse than before Even when I was playing in a server with revo (really good player) he though I hacked. I remember 'monkey' a dude who created hacks and hacked all the time reckon I hacked too, sad really.

stang, how would you rate your ad700 vs steelseries ones for gaming? i have some gamer friends who are just fanboys of these positional audio headphones. sorry for the offtopic.

I have had a LOT more time with my ATH-AD700 for gaming (don't even both with listening to music with them, leak way too much sound), but they are imiles ahead. Most 'gaming' headphones mainly mimic where the enemies will be. Proper ones like ATH-AD700 actually know where they are, especially when used with CMSS-3D on sound cards. The AD700 have a MUCH, MUCH larger soundstage and I can hear enemies farther away and pin point where they are, With the steelseries and gaming headphones in general, I can only hear them when I get closer to the enemy and I don't have an exact idea where they are, just to the left or right of me, behind or infront. The AD700 also sounds a lot better when in battle, the guns just sound more realistic. Some foot steps are drowned out with the gaming headphones, I may hear them around the corner for half a second then I just don't hear them at all. The AD700 fix all of this, I can tell when they crouch etc and if they have jumped up somewhere because I can hear them breathing etc. Don't bother with 'gaming' headphones, ATH-AD700 with a mic attatched or Beyerdynamic DT880 with a mic attatched is always the way to go!

Also, I find that using my X-Fi Elite Pro makes a much increased improvement to gaming than getting a new headphone does, without a decent sound card, good headphones are nothing. I cant play games using on board audio, I might as well be using 'gaming' headphones, I get the exact junk out of my AD700 using on board that I do with steelseries with my X-Fi. Remember, source comes first

The real skilled players are at UT2k4. Just sayin

Movement in quake and CS are zero skill but movement in 2k4 is an artform

haha maybe so but do you remember Fatal1ty? Best FPS gamer in like 10 different online FPS including Quake 3 which he has stated before it was his favourite
post #132 of 274
hahaha, gamers will never stop debating which one is better. I remember i used to debate with my friends who played cs that warcraft is much more complex and all than cs.

I second the "no gaming headphones". They are poorly made in general. I owned and sold a pair of PC 350, the "best" gaming headphones sennheiser makes. They were utter trash. And I am not exaggerating. Thin metallic sound. Booming bass that neutralized all other frequencies. Terrible. Sound cards help a lot. I tend not to use the effects that stig mentioned as they don't seem to work for me, but my ultrasones and soundcard have made a night and day difference.

Well it depends a lot on what subtleties people are able to recognize, or admit to. Everything is simple on the surface.

CS and Quake, whilst very different both require superb aim, and amazing strategy and timing. With quake its generally 1 v 1 and cs 5 v 5. CS requires teamwork which is an element absent from most online games, making it more like a sport, if you will.

Warcraft is still strategic, but you have to focus on only the strategy and management. You don't have to really do any of the killing yourself or anything manually. Sure there is micro management but that is more of an exploitation. Warcraft is all statistics based. X unit beats Y unit(s) and is Z effect per cost. Hits and accuracy are also guaranteed, although effected by abilities and such. Units won't miss, get confused, make a bad choice anymore than the next unit will, because they are all AI driven. Human error is not an aspect, which is very important. Human error is only in the overall planning, really.

CS is different because there is more levels of skill. IE aim, strategy and management and human error all at the same time. Strategy of the match in its entirety, strategy of an individual round, and strategy based on your given position in relation to your team and the other team. And then buying as a team and at the correct moments ETC ETC. In cs a USP or Galil is statistically weaker than an AK or M4, but in the right hands, that doesn't matter because AIM can override statistical advantage. Also mastery of the "flow of a map" is a human added element widely present in CS. If you watch any pro games, especially on nuke or train, how many people do you see getting wallbanged (shot and killed through wall before actually being seen)? It's quite often and is a result of hours and hours of playing a map and understanding how it fold out over time. Not something to be proud of necessarily, but impressive nonetheless.

There is a reason CS is the biggest online game of its type since its conception, and also has the largest competitive scene. It is the only video game to resemble a team sport as humans know it, in any way, shape or form.

Well you clearly have never seen a Q3 defrag video :P. I saw a 2k4 video once, that tried to look like a defrag video. Could have been over 9000 times harder, and I would have still laughed just as hard. It looks funny and unimpressive, and doesn't give much of an advantage for the amount of effort needed to be put in.

CS, on another note has bunny hopping, slingshotting, skyflashing, russian walking, boosting, silent jumps, silent ladders. It is also a much slower and meticulous game.

Plus we are talking about games people actually, you know, play .
