optical cable doesnt 'sound' at all, in fact when using the optical the iriver becomes a transport, not a dac. the quality of sound will then rely almost entirely on the quality of downstream components (dac and amp)

Also, using either a CF or SDHC instead of an HDD, the ihp consumes less power and is much faster in accessing any song track. No mechanical noise. HDDs are prone to mechanical failure. And hopefully once SDXC comes out, somebody will make an adapter for it.

Both are Toshiba ZIF hard drive disks. You need a ZIF to IDE adapter.

What is the benefit of rockbox? just better soundquality? I think after christmas im going to splurge for one off ebay. Is it hard to mod to get bigger harddrives? im not very tech savvy .

Sorry not trying to hijack the thread just didnt wanna start a new one for these questions. Ill delete if it bothers OP.
