Recommendations for a primer on the basics of electronics

I'm looking for recommendations for a fairly comprehensive book that covers the basics of electronics that will give me a solid technical understanding to tackle most DIY projects. Maybe that's a tall order, but any direction for any sort of material to look at would be appreciated.

I'm reasonably mathematically savvy (made it through calc ab in high school and enjoyed chem/physics) but I just don't have a technical grasp of what's going on in amps/dacs. I certainly know in a more general sense, but part for part wise I would like to understand the circuitry.

I have a couple of books, and can recommend you 2 of them.

For an all around book that's not the easiest, but will get you the level of knowledge you'd like, there's "the art of electronics" by horowitz an hill.
If you want something that will help understand better everything that has to do with the mathematical side of things (but just the basics, such as phasor representation, complex algebra, what the time domain and frequency domain, transient response and a few other things) I'd recommend you get "basic electrical engineering" by mcgraw-hill. I got this book and a few other last year from the library in the university (they were selling off many books they dont need anymore, so I picked a few), and this one is better than the rest (plus there are questions inside you can try and answer/calculate to make sure you understand it all).
