Stepdown converter usage with an amp?

Hi, not too sure where to put this (board wise).
Received an amp that was not set the voltage of my local area (however as it was a gift I will accept the amp as it is). The amp in question is an Emmline HR2 from RSA.

I'm thinking that either there is a way I can make it run on local voltage (240/50) or I will run a step-down converter.

What I am wondering is, with the change in frequency of the AC being supplied, will any mechanical timing devices be affected? I'm completely noob at the electronics side of amps etc so I don't even know if there is one, but I figure I should ask.

Also, I am asking this of ray specifically, but does anyone know the general wattage/ampage of SS amps such as this so I can buy the appropriate stepdown converter?

Also, any australians got a particular recommendation for brand? Looking at tortech at the moment.

Better safe than sorry, etc.

If the transformer uses dual primaries, you might be able to rewire it internally which would be a much better solution. Try and find this out first avoiding step downs.

Is there anything particularly wrong with a stepdown? I'm not too great with soldering irons and whatnot.
I'm talking to a guy about it now.

I could send it to Ray, but with the cost of shipping it would be twice the price of a stepdown, probably.

Also, if I rewire it it might hurt chance of resale down the track (if I decide to upgrade/go balanced), as there doesnt seem to be much of a market locally for RSA


I'm actually thinking of getting some retro consoles from america (since local ones run at 50hz and I dont particularly want to modify them), and the games are much cheaper in america. So if the stepdown wont affect anything negatively, it could work for me.

Mr Green, send an email to Ray find out whether in fact the transformer uses dual primaries (115v and 230v) and ask for the transformer data spec.
A local electronics person could rewire it, would be 10 mins work if he has no left arm. This cannot hurt overseas resale as the transformer (hopefully) would be dual anyway.

Ray has not contacted me about the specs (I sent him an email first asking for them - which he replied 'we can swap it for you' followed by total silence).

I ended up going a stepdown from tortech. Figure the extra box will give me that snake oil power + let me use a console from the states (I'm looking at you, snes).

Fair enough, I don’t think many companies would condone opening there products to stuff around with the wiring voiding warranty etc. The step down should work fine
