I have just seen God...

I put on Les Voix Humaines, a collection of works played on centuries-old viols by Jordi Savall, while studying at a local café for a final exam. The Fuze/Tomahawk/RE0 combo is forming a beautiful synergy tonight.

Carl Friedrich Abel's "Pieces in D minor for bass viol solo Prelude in D" comes on. It is so beautiful, I can't help but put my notes down, close my eyes, turn up the volume, and just take it all in.

After a few seconds, as Savall begins to draw his bow ever more forcefully, yet gracefully across the strings, I see a light fill the darkness behind my eyelids.

The light quickly gets brighter, filling my covered eyes and making the music even more beautiful... until...

...the car that just pulled into the parking spot in front of the café turns off its headlights, which had just been shining onto my closed eyes.

More of a plug for this amazing CD and these amazing headphones than anything else. Cheers.

It's very beautiful - just the kind of music to get into the groove of studying. I love the period sound and timbres of those instruments

Are you familar with Lucia Micarelli's work 'Music from a Father Room'?

It's equally heart piercing - metaphysical and entrancing. You might like her.

Btw - that experience wasn't actually God. It was just the aura around God. Once the noise dies down and the music plays, then in the silence...then that's were..... well, music's transcendence is strange and beautiful in that sublime way.

Ever see les Matins du Monde w/Gerard Depardieu? It has a lot of viol music by Savall, some written by him. Here's the soundtrack:

Amazon.com: Tous les matins du monde [Bande Originale du Film] [Hybrid SACD]: Jordi Savall: Music

Ah, I can imagine the same. Stringed instruments are particularly hard to reproduce perfectly on IEM, but a well driven RE0 is one of very few exception.

Too good of a music is not good for studying

I once dated (briefly) a girl who had visions.

Though they weren't quite like this.

I think there are medications for that.

I think I met her sister... She tried stabbing me with a spoon.

I like to think that it was less about trying to kill me and more about her hallucinating that I was a bowl of soup.

No, but thanks for the tip. Based on just images on her site I'll want to hear her music.

I was reading some of those amazon reviews this morning, and it seems viola de gamba is not the same as viol. I thought they were the same, but I guess viol = bass viol? Still a really good soundtrack, though. The movie wasn't too bad, either.

[I am sorry to burst your vision bubble but, my wife has been in the house for the past three days.]

Savall is a masterful performer. I am a big fan of, almost, everything he's done.

Attractive young lady on record cover but she shouldn't go barefooted with those feet.
