Got some new CK-10s....

So I finally bit the bullet and bought some for 200 bucks. I got them in a few hours ago and have been pushing their limits. I bought these for listening to organic-like and experimental music.... also trance and electro. The box was not even worth noting, and it came with some wiping cloth of some sort.... three size buds, and a nifty football zipup case..... now on to the sound....

First I booted up my collection of trance music- Armin van Burren stuff sounded very well- the bass wasn't long and hard, but rather girthy and bubbly! Anything that needs bass, it gives it to it, and it somehow makes a lot of booms in your ears, but not when I'm used to my old sony ex-90s.

Bass= Clean, very smooth, but it's also realistic and luscious. (good or badheads)

I popped in some Smashing Pumpkins and hit up Soma and Disarm....
The bass seemed to do a fantastic job at hitting every single tap, and the guitars.... oh man, the guitars in Soma are to die for with these iems..... so fast and SMOOOOTH. The vocals were the first point that I noticed how truly these little buds can make some stage, I mean the vocals had a dimension to them that was undeniable- unbelievable.... I cycled through a few other songs and all of these backed my impressions up.

Mids= Liquid smooth..... really a good example of why armature drivers are so good.

To finish it off, I did a classic- pink floyd comfortably numb....
The track's psychedelia inspired forefront really puts on a great show, almost like fireworks while you're on a boat in a lake..... it's phenomenal! The effects, and the riffs.... they just dance circles up and down your head.... teasing.... until the vocals slowly come in, seemingly from the dark forefront, and let their presence overwhelm you with sonic bliss.

Highs= Comfortably Numb is a wonderful example of well done highs imo, and it really does show me what these things CAN do.

The lowdown

What's not to like? Their absolutely tiny and adorable.... straightforward as well..... the more I listen to them the more I'm crushing on my new IEMs. I see a couple of things though- the strainrelief on the bud is mediocre, and I highly doubht that this will ever EVER tear u from normal wear, but nothing is actually mounting the cable that I see, thought there may be some mount inside the unit who knows.

All in all, these are the best IEMs I've found for what I want. They're INSANELY fast, great real bass, and the highs go up there. Oh yeah, and they have a bit of a grado sig imo..... may just be my mindset, but that's what it seems like to me.

I may add some new stuff here.... I don't believe in armature burnin, but I may be wrong idk..... so if anything changes, I'll let you guys know.

I know you may not like what I am about to say but: this may work better in Forum 103: portable headphones.

But, the CK10 remains my favourite universal IEM of all time - of all time.

You didn't explain which DAP or other sources or amp do you paired with, so it is hard to understand so many praised words. it just a earphone, if imperfect pairing, it is hard to perform it's best potential.

i had to get my ears to burn in to the CK10s... after the burn in you will realize how great they truly sound
i love the clarity on these. exceptional

makes me wonder why other members dont have them.

I think the biggest reason is that they debuted at such a high price and have only recently come down to reasonable levels. In japan of course, they were not so bad, but over seas, they were downright killer.

The stress relief isn't problematic. Shooting Stars can probably vouch for that. He has my old unit (why did I sell?) which was with me on many many marvelous adventures (look at my avatar). I would prefer if it were properly anchored though. A loose cable like that isn't a fun thing.

I used my bare Sansa Fuze. No EQ at all.

Today I listened to some really dirty electro- goldenboy, the hacker, justice, felix da housecat....etc. I can say that these headphones play these notes spot on, without missing any fidelity. Acoustic stuff still sounds great, and really makes the unique soundstage shine..... I've never heard a soundstage like this before...... I think the old basslines of the progressive era (tilt and starkid) really stand out in theses IEMs .... they're so liquid and transparent that it's absurd.
