New iRiver 4GB/8GB E30 is out today. Improved Sigmatel DSP chip - Page 2

Sorry, haven't had time to make a detailed write up, but to give you a brief run down, the SQ from the E30 loses out by a large margin when compared to the SQ of the Amp3 Pro2. As a DAP, the natural sound from the unit is actually pretty bad (details later).

BUT, it does have a trump card which is quite interesting and will probably keep me using it as a DAP. This is due to the built-in SRS WOW HD Audio enhancement which changes it completely.

I'll post pics and opinions soon

The E30 is mid-low end in iriver's current line, after all.

As far as I'm concerned this is iRiver, not the shell of a company that's left over catering to a populist demographic.

The mintpad was interesting, but not quite what I wanted. I am awating eagerly to see what they have in store for their new players:

As far as I know, the only thing iriver and MintPass share in common is a CEO who left the former to start the latter after some disagreement on corporate vision.

But that alone really doesn't say anything, because everyone's been using those chips for a while now, from the el cheapo Chinese players to some major corps.
Quite true. The (very cheap) Teclast X19+ and the new Onda VX898S both promise 70 hours playback on the 3770 chip. SigmaTel always offered great battery life (as the Amp3 also proves); too bad the 3770 is/was the end of the line. RIP.

I believe he is still one of iriver biggest share holder and holds a seat in the company board. Also a few MintPass's designer are from iriver, last I heard.
