Using High-End Speaker wires for Headphone Re-cabling?

Hey guys,

I have a set of Grados which I've been planning to recable for a while now. I was wondering, what kinda of cables do you guys recommend?
I have a good source locally for high-end speaker wires. I am planning to buy a bundle of not too thick, but yet not too thin cables. Maybe something around 22 or 18 gauge copper/silver speaker wires.

Is it possible to subsitute speaker wires to use as re-cabling for headphones? Also what kinda sound will I expect?

I have a good local source for connectors and jacks so I am not worried about those. The most that worries me is, acutally trying to fit/solder the cable inside of the jack.

Please contribute if you have any positive and constructive input.
Thanks in advance

18 AWG is too thick, IMO. 22-24 AWG is ok though, from experience. Most headphone cables seem to use wire of about that gauge.

Perfect, I will also do the braiding by hand so we'll see how it goes!
4 (22-24 AWG) sounds good? 2 for signal, and 2 for ground?

Also could anyone point me to the right direction in getting high-end 3.5MM jacks? Preferably the ones that fit iPhones/ipods. But also big ones that fit amps

Thanks guys~

I found some nice 16awg wire, but that is too thick for any 3.5mm jack so I'm sourcing out some 22 or 24awg wire now.
