Best place for reviews on CD sound quality?

I was thinking of picking up some Clash stuff and I'm not even sure if the Remastered stuff they did back about 10 years ago is better or worse than the first CD pressings (I'm talking about their Sandinista! album which I believe was first pressed back in the 1990?). I really don't want to buy anything blind because that would get annoying fast.

If I want to be fast buy the first pressings on CD?

not a general rule of thumb to follow, some remasters are better than the original releases. I would check Steve Hoffman forums for posts on sound quality and which version to get. Mofi,DCC and Audio Fidelity remasters are all safe bets so I'd pick those up if the albums you are looking for exist on those labels.

I generally order the early CD pressings, usually used, from amazon. That is unless it's rare and costs too much. Late 80's and early 90's pressings will almost always be better than the newer remasters (almost always).

There are some exceptions, especially when it's a MoFi or DCC release. But those can get expensive fast.

in my experience the older the cd the better the quality
