There is exactly the rub... I've been through all these bits (large magnified light, sitting in a closet somewhere, small vise that has a vac grip in the garage or attic somewhere), but really just need the clamps when holding wire on wire or some other contact. And, no large pcb projects ever - maybe 4"x5" max, so...

What I mostly use is a thin 6x6 Mouser box and the occasional unattached alligator clip (along with tweezers, safety pins, and occasional tape) for 99.99% of all I ever do. Maybe that is why my 'work' looks the way it does.

So, my initial thought was this would help every now and then, when I wanted to just look over joints, and it was ok for reviewing eXStata amp boards last night - but not great. And, to solder work on, it would definitely take a bigger base (scrap wood in the garage - a 15 minute project), but, not really big enough in reatity except for smaller boards.

BUT, I have certainly spent $10 on FAR less useful things in DIY... that is for, perhaps, a different thread.

Now, how can we turn this for Christmas? Maybe we design our own version, that we all really need, can make ourselves, and leave as a gift for all aspiring board stuffers? More thought coming, and certainly, folks have ideas....
