Nano vs. Touch vs. X-series

Thread Starter
Hi,

I recently purchased a 5g nano for my wife, and a set of hd 238's. It's the only dap I've had experience in listening to, and I would like to get one for myself.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the nano isn't quite getting the most out of the 238's. How would the 3g touch and x-series improve the sound, or how do the 3 sound different.

Ideally, I would not like to use an amp.

Thanks
Chris

apple's and sony's soundstage for their DAPS sound very different
apple is more neutral while Sony sounds a bit more "hifi", i dont know how to say it

2g is better than the nano.

Will the touch have more juice than the nano? Would the x-series pair with my hd 238's better?

Thanks

The amp on the X blows the others right out of the water. I have a pair of HD228s at work - backup for those days when I forget my IEMs - and they sound great from the X. The 238 is open, granted, but I have no doubt that they will sound good from the X.

I've heard some complaints of hiss with the x-series....could you hear any with your 228's.

Thanks

The hiss complaints come from the owners of sensitive IEMs, not cans like the 228. I've never had a problem with my Sony IEMs or the RE0, but I didnt spend 500+ USD either - you need to ask Shure owners that question.
