Properly connecting an amp w/o true line out?

So I have a Sony NWZ-A729, Sony in all it's beneficience did not include a line out. As far as I know, nobody has been able to find cracks to add a line out to the headphonejack.

I have not been able to find a LOD to purchase for this DAP. So i'm stuck with the HP out.

If I want to use an amp with the A729, what's the best method. No EQ, but what volume level on the DAP before I plug in the amp cable?

I believe you set the volume on the player to maximum (30/30) then adjust then volume on the amp itself. As this gives a better signal to noise ratio, at least that's what I did with my one

that is about right, but you should check for sizzle/distortion at all the levels to find the best setting. my d2 was good at about 48-49/50 and my ipod touch to the 2nd to last level. many amps too, don't do well at volume 100%. but certainly, all you need to do is connect a cable to the headphone out and then to the amp. easy breezy.
