100 Best Albums of the Decade : Rolling Stone

I know there is mixed feelings about Rolling Stone here, but it's interesting who the panel was that made up the list.

They also have a top 100 songs list as well. I'm a bit more dubious on that list... 99 problems by Jay-Z as number 2?????

Wow, Arcade Fire's Neon Bible is #75.

Lady Gaga, no 96 in top 100 songs, Really after ten years of music that's the best they could do? Proud to say I don't own an album or song on either list. Result

Ya, Funeral is 6 also, I freaking love that album. I've listened to it so many times this year

What a mediocre decade for music. At least Modern Times made it up there, one of the few bright spots of the decade.

People- there is A LOT of really good music on there. Sure, always gonna be some duds on a decade long list, but seriously... if you can't find something on there you like you aren't really trying.

Yo La Tengo 77, jason timberlake 50-something?

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

I love bob dylan, but his output this decade has been so forgettable. I bought modern times when it came out and listened to it on and off for a few months before I completely lost interest. It was a decent album to listen to in the moment, but today I don't remember a single song.

You know that is one of the things i appreciate about these types of lists, they may you think and look to see if you missed something.

I have Sea Change. I know it gets much love here, but when i bought it i thought "major depression music" and pretty much forgot about it.

I guess it's time to pull it out and give it a fresh listen.

As to the Dylan entries, I'm not debating they should be on the list, but Love and Theft is far superior to Modern times if just for the song Mississippi alone

I wouldn't get too wrapped up over the order of the list. If you read how they compiled it, they simply asked a bunch of artists/ writers/ people in the business to list their top 25 in order. Then they just tallied it up. So its kind of hard to fault them about the order. Instead, like sno1man said use it to see what you missed or need to revisit.

But again, lots of good stuff on there. I am not a singles guy so I didn't spend much time on that list but as far as the albums go their are a bunch of classics on the first page alone.

The list gave me a huge laugh.
Not for what was on the list, but for one of the first page poster's opinion of #1 on the list:
.
"OK-I'm an old curmudgeon-but KID A sounds like some thing David Bowie's retarded brother would create if he were allowed instruments."
.

The album list isn't bad, considering the source, and #1 song for Gnarls Barkley is a good look. Wouldn't have thought a decade ago that Cee-Lo would go on to that kind of recognition.

I disagree completely, I would put both Love & Theft and Modern Times in the top quarter of his catalog, I think he's remained remarkably vital as a musician for being this far into his career.
