Stuck on one pair - Page 2

Ideally I only use one pair of headphones for everything and essentially the D5000's are becoming that pair, they 'rock' with everything, sound absolutely captivating.
Another reason for sticking with one pair is that the D5000's (at least for me) really require a getting used to, to sound their best, more than any other pair I have used.
Obviously there's something peculiar or maybe something wrong with their sound, to my ears that is, after listening to another pair of headphones for a while it takes a much longer time to settle with D5000s sound again than it would vice versa.
But once used they sound better than every other headphones I have listened to.

Ham Sandwich, I like your current trio of headphones. Me, I only have one of it, SR60, which I really like much with rock, vocals, and other genre of music. But the SR60 doesn't fit so much for jazz, orchestra, genre that requires bigger sound stage. I think this is the reason why we buy different pairs of headphones. I think that every headphone is unique.

I think I will also add D2000 and HD600 in my collection of headphones. So I will also have a trio of headphones.

Going back to the question, I assume that no headphone can handle well all the genres of music. That is why we have two or more headphones. I suggest for a new headfier to buy first the headphone that suits his needs. Then, if he want more genres, he could buy another, provided he really needs it.

Thank you.

I have 4 set and I listen to the 701 when alone or quiet in the house and the Shure 840 when TV is on and I dont want to hear the wife or kids. The 701 are super cans. My Denon 1001 hasnt had much use since the Shures arrived and the PX100 are when I am in public for listening on beach or at sports tournaments with my daughter.

One set of headphones for music (SR225's) another set for gaming (AD700's). If I had more genres of music going through my normal listening habits, I would have kept the DT880's for jazz and classical.

Now the question is when I eventually get some RS-1's, will my SR225's have any place left. I imagine I'll keep em around for nostalgic purposes, they are damned fun still
