I currently use an iPod Classic 120GB, but am not able to use ALAC files on it as they tend to skip. Having read into this, I'm led to believe that the Classic only has a 32MB buffer, whereas previous iPods (the 5G for example) have a 64MB buffer and that this means older iPods are less likely to skip when playing ALAC files.
I have found someone selling "hybrid" iPods that are made of mainly new parts, including a 5G logic board (apparently meaning you keep the superior Wolfson audio chip) and an 80GB 6G HDD. Does this mean that these hybrid iPods will have the 5G buffer or the 6G buffer ie is the buffer on the logic board or in the HDD?
Thanks
Peter
