My budget is £100 i'm looking for headphones for metal (power metal and bands like kiuas and iced earth) and for gaming, the HFI580 look to be perfect for metal, but i'm not sure about the soundstage, i'm also considering the autio technica ad-700 because of the soundstage. which would be best for a 50/50 mix of metal and gaming?

these will be playing through onboard until i can get a soundcard (xonar D2 is what i'm looking at right now)

The build looks exactly like my old HFI-780, comfort wise. That's a very, very bad thing. I'd go with the AD700's out of the two, but I wouldn't get either, personally. HARX900, maybe?

I have the ATH-AD700 for gaming, they are sweet! I quit online gaming because of these though, every server i joined i would win by a huge margin (Urban Terror and Quake 3) and get called a hacker of every sort and get banned from that server. I just knew where they would go every time and I would sneak to there and hear EXACTLY where they are and would kill them very quickly. So yeah, very, very accurate and extremely wide soundstage. So unless you play online games, get the ATH-AD700 for gaming. I use the Grado SR-225 for metal. Children of Bodom, Killswitch Engage, Hammerfall, In Flames, DevilDriver, Lamb of God etc. They are very nice and I think the high's are coming along nicely and they are very in your face, just what you want for metal. I do not know a headphones that would suit metal AND gaming, hence I have both I am looking at Ultrasone's right now but am not sure like you. I was really looking for something that is comparable to ATH-AD700 for gaming and like Grado's for music but a slightly larger soundstage with more punch to the bass.
