you think i can ask them in the store if its v1 or v2? and they'll know what im talking about?

If they can open it and boot it, the only way to tell is to go to settings/system info. There’s no other way to tell, not even the box. That said I highly doubt that any store has any of the original v1’s in stock, remember this change came out sometime in mid 08, as I said above the best way is to buy refurbished.

On another note, I have personally bought 3 Clip refurbs and I have 2 that are over a year old and working fine, the condition they came in was like new, not even a scratch, just not packed in the origional box. BTW all 3 are v1’s

Edit: BTW the 3rd one is still working fine, it's only about 6 months old ...
