What's your favorite rendition of "Love in Vain Blues"?

I am currently addicted to this song. Such beautiful composition being written in 1930s is just amazing compared to so much crap being written nowadays. In my opinion, though, Peter Green performs this number the best.

How about you guys?

Which album did he record it on? I don't remember it among his stuff that I have, and would like to hear it.

Rolling Stones on Let It Bleed. I'll have to check out Peter Green.

I've got the eponymous Splinter Group album. Great stuff, especially nice version of Going Down, with the late Cozy Powell on drums. Managed to see them a few years back in Cambridge, MA - Nigel Watson did all the classic Peter Green licks, while Greenie got into the multi-finger picking, acoustic-sounding stuff. A great show.

Thanks for the ID on the Songbook.

Yup. They move it in a country direction…beautiful.

Robert Johnson creeps the hell out of me, in a good way. The Stones' rendition is good, but nothing can touch RJ's. How I wish his music could have been recorded using today's equipment. Then again, perhaps the antique recordings add to the mysticism surrounding his life and music.
