Rockbox is an alternative (and superior) firmware to stock, it has improved both of my DAPs (H140 and Samsung) to another level especially the Samsung as napster software no longer worked now just copy and read files as UMS drive. Adds about a dozen new codecs not supported by stock such as aac, alac, ogg, flac, musepack. Adds things like crossfaid, gapless, replaygain, self build database, adjustable EQ, delete files/directories, album art, adjustable size fonts, themes and games.

If you're using IE8 the best DAP I've heard with them is the sony x1060 followed by a close tie with the cowon s9 and sony S738. If you're on a budget the sony S730/630 series pairs nicely with the IE8.

I found that for my taste/music Sony S639F is the best player for IE8. Clear and a liitle bit bass shy so that it compensates for the bass heavy IE8's.
I think these days there are good deals on these Sonys.
