Strange section in "A Day In The Life"

Now I'm not a huge Beatles fan, but I got my dad a cd copy of Sgt. Peppers (he had it on vinyl, but he wanted a cd copy for his bday). There's this one point at the end of "A Day In The Life" that seems like a very high frequency. Neither of my parents can hear it, which I'm guessing is due to age. Does anyone know why there's that frequency in the song? It's not like an instrument or anything.

I heard that Paul mccartney recorded a high pitch at the end of
the song that humans can't hear for his Shetland sheepdog pet. I tried getting the song and play it to my dog to see her reaction. Maybe that's what u heard? If so, u must have a very very good ear

Haha when I was 8 or 9 it would drive me nuts, I would rush to the turn table to lift the needle before that sound came on..............today I can still hear it, though it doesn't bother me as much.....probably lost some hearing.

Glad I'm not the only one.

It's at 5:06, by the way. Precedes the "infinite" gibberish at the end.

When I first heard it I thought it was related to a physical defect or something like that.

I used to hear it and think that the claim that it was at an inaudible frequency was bunkum. Sadly, I can't hear it anymore!

I hear it clear as day.

But then again, I can't be around CRT TV's for too long either because of their obnoxious high pitched squeal
post #12 of 14
haha about CRTs.

The other day my parents left the TV on in their room at night, muted, and the door wide open. The high-frequency sound really got to me in the living room trying to read.

So I walk in and ask 'em "isn't that sound driving you crazy?", to which they reply almost in unison "huh, what sound??".

I always thought it was tape hiss or something. Do you guys hear a clear note ringing or does it sound more like a hiss?

It sounds like a clear high pitched mosquito, I don't hear hiss in the tone.
