Upcoming Emotiva DAC

Anybody see this:

The Emotiva Lounge - DAC Poll

I am a DAC new coming so I can't evaluate the technical specs of it, but what do some of you guys think? I am thinking about this or a DAC 19MK3 from AudioGD. The Audio GD stuff gets rave reviews here, but i do like Emo. stuff.

More accurate renders are on the latest page of that thread

I would consider it if it decodes HDCD

It is getting harder to find stand alone dac's that offer HDCD decoding, that would be a plus for this one.

I just want something that balanced, and doesn't skimp on inputs... that is actually worth buying... Sounds like this might fit that bill...

I was looking at the Audio GD Ref 7, but its real steep 1750USD +140 shipping... and well 299.99 is a much nicer entry to balanced... even if it doesn't have 3 power supplies, and isolated L/R/Digital paths...

The Audio-GD does have the DSP that re-clocks to eliminate jitter... I am wondering how much of a difference this really makes in the end.

299.99 won't get you a true balanced DAC

Isn't the DACMagic real balanced at $399?

I'm really looking forward to a DAC in a standard 17"-wide rack component body. The popular DACs on the market today (Benchmark DAC, Lavry DA11, PS Audio Digital Link III, Cambridge DACMagic) are about half-width, and none can be stacked unless it is on the top of one's component shelf. The only 17" wide DACs I know of are the really high-end ones, like the Bryston and the Electrocompaniet.

Depends on the dacs used. sigma delta master clock is less sensative to jitter! So, a new clock(reclock) would yield nothing or way less...

I think the larger differences are all in the analog section of a cdplayer or dac.

Final specs have not been published yet but they said it is possible to make a fully differential balanced DAC for under $300

Probably, but is it any good at that price.LOL.

It seems to me the best way to balance...alot are internally converted, so called transformer balancing, wich takes an extra step into the equation. Fully differential seems the way to go.

If they can pull it off for that kind of money, then i wonder why anybody else wants so much for balanced gear!

I mean the emotiva cdplayer is allready very close to high end slayers, if you mod it for a small amount it will surpass most!

Interesting developments...

or maybe emotiva is the only company that understands that in this economical climate people are NOT looking for expensive so called high end gear but good affordable audio equipment.

Maybe Emotiva could have priced it at $1000+ to make people believe it is a competent DAC lol. but even at that price range, there are not so great sounding DACs.

Latest news on Emotiva's DAC and rack-mounting

This just in from Emotiva re the DAC:

"... the DAC initially called the “XDA” is on track in the development. We heard a prototype and were blown away how good it was. The XDA would be 1RU tall full width. I would suspect Rack mounting too will be an option. Forecasted for a late summer release the “XDA” is."

Here is what Emotiva has to say about its rack-mounting accessories:

"Our Rack mount kits are here. The URS-2, and the URL-2, and URE-4 respectively. The URS and the URL are only $39.00 for the pair, and the URE-4 is $49.00. This is our promotional price till the end of
April. Regular pricing would be $10.00 more a pair of each type. Shipping is only $5.00 for a set anywhere in the ConUS.

"Please note that on the 4RE we noted that the hole spacing in some racks are bit off. Center hole to center hole is about 4 7/16 inches. So please measure your center hole to center hole locations before ordering for
proper fit."

First; the standard rack width is 19" and Benchmark makes an adaptor just for this purpose. Lavry may also as both of these companies cater to the pro market where 19' rack mounting is the rule.
