Blue-Spec CD?
what do you guys think? possible real improvement or just another marketing gimmick from sony?
anyone tried it out yet?

Blu-spec CD is not a new audio format says Sony, it's just CD made to sound much better | Home Cinema Choice

i'd say it's a gimmick mostly... if it includes the anti scratch coating of bluray it would make it less gimmicky but the "made to sound much better" bit makes me laugh harder than hearing talk of cable burn in

What a load of bollocks.

I find it funny that one of the pictures on the site describes my face when i read this exactly.

Gimmick. I have a Blue-Spec sampler CD which has a regular CD with it for comparison. There is no night and day difference by any stretch of the imagination.

Gimmick fo-shizzle.

If CD players really "lost" so much data in the read process, they would be no good for software.

Bingo. This is one of the most bogus things I've ever seen. It's either a 1 or a 0.

Considering the same article talks about the green pen, it's total BS.

well I'm glad we sorted that out...seems like head-fi in a very rare case has unanimous agreement on the sjubject

though I will be getting the Thelonious Monk - Monk's Dream in blue-spec CD, hoping that the remastering is better

When looking at these "new" technology releases based on the same piece of music, always remember: mastering selection > anything else. Always research the quality the mastering used, and you will have a good idea of whether to buy or not.

If it's better mastered then it's good. At night, some CDs in my library can be heard pining for "dynamic range" and "less clipping". I'm always hopeful someone will hear their cry...
