chassis in melbourne

Hey all, just wondering if anyone knows places where i could find a decent and large chassis/enclosure for an amp im building. Perfer 2 identical ones, one for a PS to house 3 toroids and another for the amp which is going to be 5 channel or maybe even 7.

Prefer alu, see alot of nice ones around europe be costs way to much to get them to aus. Thinking about building one out of alu actually. Any thoughts?

altronics have some:

Altronics - Your One Stop Audio Visual & Electronics Supplier

http://www.par-metal.com/ and modushop.biz are of better quality but not Australian.

You could also look at http://www.thlaudio.com/indexE.htm or other asia-based hifi suppliers. Shipping to Australia shouldn't be too bad.

I’d certainly be throwing them a bit of business if there was.

Another manufacturer is Elcal-System (Germany). They have some nice enclosures at reasonable prices, especially the MD- and Kühlkörperngehäuse lines.

There are some other excellent enclosure manufacturers in Europe but the prices can be a real PITA.

The simplest option is to find a Hammond Enclosure that you like (google the home page) and then order it from Farnell AU =)

fair enough but i checked their stuff, im not sure if theyre big enough and i was hoping for something more rectangular, i dont like the rounded stuff everywhere. Not only that, i just checked their prices lol, for under 100 you can get the same thing from altronics compared to 300-500 bucks from farnell lol wtf. Thats way too much, i wanna spend about 500 on my entire amp, not 500 on a damn case.

If we had more of an idea what sizes you needed we could give more specific suggestions.

good point, im thinking of two enclosures or one large one. They need to fit 3 300va toroids and 5 chip amps. I was planning to do a design with bars of alu or copper that go from front to back and use them as heatsinks in the upper level, while underneath have the toroids and rectifier boards below. On the rear panel will be 5 pairs of binding posts and 5 female rcas. Along with the mains power and fuse and on the front i was looking at a push button (not momentary, rather avoid more circuits inside it) on the front with a single led. I wanted it to look very sleek, maybe brushed aluminium front panel or something (love those european cases at modushop.biz).

Thanks

Food for thought:

A-Tech Fabrication Home Page

Very pricey, but there’s some nice options that could be customised.
