Just wondering if there's a place where the real photo geeks put their minds together.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Photo geeks and photographers are different type of breeds. I think photo geeks are the ones mainly talking and measuring equipments and like to argue about tech stuff but hardly take any pictures, whereas photographers (hobbyist not pros) are those who prefer to talk about photography itself and not so much about charts and graphs.

dpreview is full of photogeeks. Photo.net used to be a nice place to talk about photography (a few years ago) but now there are so many snobs there who talk in condescending tone to you and a few arrogant mods if I may add... (although unfortunately I still frequent both forums...)

Nikoncafe is still okay and as far as I know, not many tools around (people acting like tools, not tools in equipments) but then again I don't frequent it that much. Clubsnap is mainly people from Singapore/Malaysia but the forum atmosphere there is much friendlier and inviting. They are not as big as dpreview or photo.net but still quite a lot of members there... I never quite liked Nikonians from the way they forced you to contribute.

Or you can try the Headfi version of 'photo forum' on "Nikon thread" or "Canon thread".

If you want to learn about how to become a better photographer you should check out fredmiranda.com: Specialized in Canon - Nikon SLR Cameras, Forum, Photoshop Plugins, Actions, Reviews, Hosting and Digital Darkroom. Its one of the best websites and there are a lot of great photographers on there. Comparing equipment takes a backseat to producing great photographs though.

I like POTN, thats a nice place actually, good balance of amateur and pros. I also like Talk Photography™ (uk based), and there are some professional photographers forum i've been on that is amazing in both quality of work and depth of discussion like no other.

Canon Digital Photography Forums is my favorite.
Gear wise it is targeted to Canon, but most of the talk can be enjoyed and joined even if you use gear from other vendors.

Another one for POTN.

They don't mind the use of budget equipment and DIY, as long as the results are good.

It is as said heavily canon Centered, but if you want some tips on how to make a cheap but good flash diffuser, the brand you're shooting with really doesn't matter.
