Denon D5000/D7000 vs ATH-AD2000 vs Ultrasone Pro 900 for Trance?

I've had my ultrasone 780's for some time now and I love them, although on some tracks the female vocals seem to get overpowered, plus I have an itch to upgrade!

Mostly listen to Trance/vocal trance + EDM, Dance pop, some alternative rock.
Anyone with any of these 4 headphones please tell me your experiences.

Feel free to recommend any other headphones under ~$1000 as well as any amp pairings thanks.

nobody listens to trance here?

Will the AD2000 have enough bass impact for you? I find bass impact and some good treble characteristics important for dance.

Good question never tried them. Yes bass, treble very important but so are the mids I need something good across the whole spectrum.

Well PRO 900 are superb allrounders so it´s hard to go wrong with them. Not listened much to trance with them though. 750 was certainly great for that so should work fine

only denon I tried markl D5000 that is not really suited. But it´s quite different to the stock D5000

Ok I've narrowed it down to the D7000 or the PRO 900. The D7000's seem to be better regarded all around (more expensive too).

When I was settling in on my closed headphones, I listened to the Pro900, Ultrasone ed.8 and D7000s. Based on what I heard, the D7000s were the cans for me. They had incredible and controlled bass with great mids and sparkly highs. IMO they were the best of the bunch (and best closed cans I've ever heard)! Totally worth it extra $$$ to the Pro900s.

I truly love my D7000, and I listen to a fair amount of trance, and trance-like music. Paired with my EHHA, its pure bliss.

I'm still all new to this head-fi stuff, so don't take much I say too serious, although I read on the lawtonaudio (markls site) the only differences between D2000 and the D7000 (and the d5000) are the earcups and the cable, the driver's are the same, though they might be positioned a little differently.

Now a new pair of D7000 roundly $900-1000 as far as cnet stated.

A modded pair (La 2000 lite) of D2000, costs $769-839. The modded pair is a d2000 with a stock D7000 cable, Original markl mod and custom wood cups. Now i have not heard the D7000, but from markl, he claims that the modded pair should be some of best headphones around.

Anyway, just my 2 cent.

I am a trance head (should be obvious to a number around here) since mastering mixes for DJ friends in Toronto in 2002. I prefer a bassy, but not boomy headphone with great space and energy up top. My current favourite runs a LOT cheaper than those you suggest, though I am sure the Ultrasone at least is good. DJ1Pro from Ultrasone has no weaknesses for trance at all. Lots of bass impact, but no flab. Great treble detail and PRaT.

Denon are a Japanese company. In Japan, electronic music, and especially Trance is a very small niche, whereas in Europe, it is much more mainstream. The Denon D5000 I heard did not do Trance in any delicate way. It was heavy and forceful if not a little sloppy. The D7000 might be better, but based on every Ultrasone phone I have heard, it shouldn't even be near Ultrasone's backyard for trance.

If you are a side line trance fan, the thick and slower bass of the Denon might turn you on, but if you listen to trance for hours upon hours every day, I would suggest to find a headphone made by a company who know electronic music.

Wow I did not know this about Denon's bass. Now I'm confused again. Anyone compare D7000 to Ultrasone's bass?

Ultrasones headphones' bass don't have very much speed for Trance (although the ED9 is a different story), however it is still better than the Denons IMO.
I enjoyed listen to the D7000, but their bass didn't do it for me, it has great refinement and quantity, but it is unfocused, the impact doesn't hit all the way deep down to "there", like most of headphones did to me (even the bass-lights).
The Ultrasones' bass have lots of quantity, great impact and goes down very deep, it is not very fast but good attack. By this i referred to the Pro 750/2500, HFI-780 and Pro 900. I enjoy the Ultrasones with trance more than the Denons, the ED9 are even much better.

Ultrasones as in the Pro 750/900 has titanium drivers that are considerably faster. Very tight bass that goes very low. Haven´t heard the D5000/D7000 but only the markl D5000 and it did lack some definition and was as mentioned slower. Meaning transient response attack and delay of notes. No comparison in term of PRaT. Pro 750 did have some insane levels of PRaT. Possible more than the Pro 900 even since it´s less laid back.

The markl D5000 I had I had huge issues getting to grips with. Had resonances, echoes like enabling reverb effects for cellar or such on a soundcard. Can´t really see they suitable for Trance or such. They did lack bass extension and detail down there too in comparison.

X1 The DJ1pro/550pro are great for electronic music, as well the Pro/PL-650.
On both hps you can change the pads to the 900 pads.
