Since you have the 30GB model, perhaps you should replace the HDD with a 32GB or higher compact flash. You can get the IDE to CF converter for about $10 on the bay and look around for a best price on the CF. You'll get faster performance and better battery life.

Interesting! But 32GB is just not enough for me nowadays. Patriot has a $176 64GB CF but I'm not sure if it's available yet.

The diymod and compact flash mod are what I'd recommend doing. I currently own the 5.5 diymod (with Pico), the X Walkman and the Amp3 Pro 2. To my ears, my diymod bests both of those setups. I could discern more details and more clearly defined vocals. It's forward sounding but at the same time, has a tinge of warmth thrown in for good measure. This combination is a delight.

If you are trying to stay with the same slim back plate there is a post where someone from russia was able to use the slim 120gb in the original housing it is this one:

Samsung HS12YHA 120GB

I personally have not tried this one yet but I do have a 80gb slim drive in my 30 gig housing. By the way that 120gb drive goes for about $120 on ebay
