I'm desperate and need help getting my music from one computer to another!

Hi!!! I'm very frustrated. I'm trying to move all of my songs from one computer to another and from one iTunes to another (same version) iTunes. Obviously I want to put the music back the way it was before. With the songs, artists and albums organized. I have both a Seagate external hard drive and a clickfree hard drive.

First off, I can't figure out how to get iTunes to scan the computer or the hard drives for music. Second, I can't get the music from either of the drives to port directly into 'my music' in iTunes. I can't figure out how to get the music into iTunes organized without having to manually do all the data entry for over 1500 songs. In .wav format if that matters.

I can port each individual song but it won't have the artist or album name once it hits iTunes. I can even port an album at a time but that problem still exists. The issue is that it still sees it only as a song.

Does anyone know how I can restore all of my music to iTunes. I'm desperate. Please explain in the simplest step-by-step way possible as I'm pretty stupid. Even a phone call would help if you could... Six zero nine, five zero six eleven seventy-seven

Thanks for your help,

Ross

Copy your itunes, and My Music folder from your My Documents folder.
Paste it to your HDD. Copy and paste to the My Documents folder on the other pc.
Open a folder, click Tools-> folder options-> view. Choose to show hidden files and folders.
C:\documents and settings\<your username>\
go into the folders local settings and application data.
also application data under local settings.
Copy all itunes and apple related folders into the same place on the other PC.

All your music will be in the same place, and your settings will remain the same.
The only thing is there's a chance you may have to ask it to scan your folders again but that'll take no time at all.

I hope this helps.

I put a copy of iTunes into the new computer from a cd. Should I have copied it from the old computer to the external drive? Thanks

copy the folders into some form of temporary storage, then into to their relevant locations on the other pc

I could simplify things by saying replicate the folder tree, then copy in the contents I specified.

maybe im missing something [maybe its that aweful itunes]

when i reformat or need to transfer to a new comp i literally

1. highlight the WHOLE my *my music* folder
2. Drag it to the portable/transfering hard drive
3.Drag the *my music* folder to the new computer
4. tell the media player to search the *my music* folder on the new comp

all the songs go in, with all the tags, star ratings etc preserved

OHH. I see.
If that's all you want, then copy the WHOLE my music folder, and WHOLE itunes folder.
put them in the my documents folder of the other pc.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for. Just like you I wanted to port over my Desktop itunes library to my laptop. I tried to do it over my network but would have taken somewhere close to 10hrs. I simply copied my library to my usb stick drive and ported it to my laptop. Everything for me is identical on both PC's.

P.S. Good to hear.

Cheers

Just copy the entire ~/Music/ folder from your old computer to the same location on the new computer. Using the Seagate as temporary storage.
Than will take care of all your music and the library used to manage them from within iTunes.

Then just fire up iTunes and enjoy.
