The Ultimate MC/MM phono stage, F-117, Nighthawk... - Page 6

Shaizada,
This is just the type of first hand experience I was looking for. I am anxious waiting for this units release. Hope it won't be much longer as I have been postponing another solution to my vinyl problem until I first give the F-117 a whirl.
Thanks,
montepilot

You're most welcome! I would actually suggest you get the other vinyl solution so that you have something to compare with the Nighthawk. It's good to have another perspective.

Have you auditioned other carts, or just the Accurate?
The major cartridge I have owned is the Accurate. I've auditioned a few and heard a decent number of cartridges against other cartridges in other systems. Off the top of my head, I've heard Koetsu Rosewood Signature, Lyra Titan, Lyra Skala, Grado the Statement, Miyajima Shilabe, Koetsu Coralstone, Lyra Dorian (mono), Ortofon Jubilee and a few others which I can't remember right away.

Each has it's own strengths and weaknesses as with all things audio. Some were just downright beautiful like the Coralstone, Shilabe and the Grado, but the Accurate is extremely well named I must say. It just digs every iota of detail from the grooves with this typical german gestalt that only the germans know how to do. It is quite stout and can easily accentuate flaws of a system like nobody's business.

The way my system is setup, the Clearaudio Accurate needs some level of warmth. I can adjust that with power cables, tubes and vibration control devices which is the main virtues of the equipment I have. I really like that adjustability.

I can do that with the Einstein for example, but with the Nighthawk, I can't. It gives you a clear sonic picture as the RIAA curve is pitch perfect due to the tight resistor tolerances Ray was mentioning to me when he was over for the Orange County meet. I can see what he was talking about.

So just the Accurate with the Nighthawk then?
Would be interesting to hear it with a Lyra and a Grado.

At the moment, that is correct.

What has your experience been with the phono cable? Do you think the Nighthawk will notice any change in the cable from the table?

I am having a new phono cable made by Whiplash Audio based on the TWag wire used in the widely popular cable for JH13 and Ultimate Ears.

Any phonostage will change in sound (in my experience) with the kind of cables used with it. Power cables and signal cables all induce changes in the sound so that definitely comes in the tweaking realm. Thats the fun part!

Montepilot, I would just call him over the phone and get the info directly from him. I know he is concentrating on this and the Protector so it's best to ask him directly for an update. Who knows how often he checks posts here.

Ok my friends, here is the latest up date.
All pc brds are manufactured & populated with all parts.
All the custom batteries with the chargers are in stock.
Three parts of the chassis, front panel, main extrusion & the knobs have been made, anodized & silk screened.
The only thing missing is the back plate. The reason for that delay is that the CNC machine made a mistake in making the Ground connector hole as big as the RCA hole.
The good new they were RE-made & shipped to the anodizer.
We should have them within a day or two.
This week-end we can have them silk screened.
This means that next week on Monday we will post on head-fi to start posting your orders.
We are almost there.
Thanks for your patience.

Will you be using this with your latest 6SN7 headphone amplifier as they could be a great match or will it only be with your speaker rig?

Lucky you! Get ready for some really heavier hitting kick drums. Ray made a few tweaks after we heard the Nighthawk in my system together when he was down for the meet
