Have you actually tried and tested this? I would be very interested to confirm the fact.

Also, like attika said, the M50s has a straight cable. A STRAIGHT 10FT CABLE! Not a nice portable one! So coiled is the way to go.

The SRH840 is the best cans and deal on them at Headroom open box 119.00 shipped. Cant beat them.

Yeah, coiled is kind of a pain in the ass, sometimes, but it's not too bad. Sure beats 10ft!

Coiled does have it advantages. It feel shorter than it actually is and my dog cant chew them as she did to my akg 701

so after some research im down to the M50's, SRH840, and maybe the k518.From what ive found, they would all sound nice coming straight off an ipod, give me good isolation, and deliver good bass. Im going to search around to see which I can find for a great price. Let me know if anyone happens to come across a great deal on these or any other suggestion. Thanks!

Yes, I have......and I also forgot that fiio has a new e1 meant for ipods, Have not ordered it though. The shure's being mentioned In my opinion are a little more durable.the senns, do really open up nicely with the fiio I promise you, they will push the 448's louder than you want to hear them. My wife has an iphone #GS and touch 3rrd gen. So I have verified the difference in them.
Agreed on the coil for portanle on the m50's. I

The K81DJ is indeed an awesome headphone at it's pricepoint and very workable for unamped portable use. Isolation is quite good, but the OP did say he was looking for circum-aural cans and the AKG is supra-aural. That could be a dealbreaker for him.

Ive noticed The fiio you mentioned is only $10. Ive never used an amp for headphones so I wanted to stay away from it but if it helps THAT much and its only $10, I would consider it. When you paired this with the 448's how was the bass response? Compairable to the M50's which seem to have the greatest number of supporters??

Well, it's different for sure, and I can't tell you which is better for your taste.
I think they have a different bass, but not enough to matter unless you listen really loud, at that point the senns, don't fair quite as well, I prefer the senns for movies without a doubt. I will say for sure that the fiio makea a bigger diiference with the senns though. They just don't have the soundstage and dynamics without an amp on portables. The M50's are a tough act to beat, and it will respond to the amp as well. Either set is a great choice. That amp is great (for it's price) I've heard worse at far higher prices. I can say the M50's bass is punchier on some music. Depth is about the same.

Thanks for all the insight. I like the reviews on the bass of the m50's. However, The Senns seem much more portable and have close to the same output. I will do some searching for both and hopefully find a used set of either one for a decent price. I know they arent portable at all but a buddy just recomended the Sony XB700's. Might look into those as well. Thanks again!!

ATH M50, Shure 440 or 840.
I know you want over the ear, but if you don't mind on ear, HD 25 I II are awesome sound isolators.

Are they awesome at isolating because they clamp hard? Thats pretty much my only issue with on-ear. They either leak sound or clamp hard. Thanks for all the suggestions!! Still havent purchased anything yet.
