Need help selecting my first cans! Bass+ipod+isolation=??

Hello everybody! Ive been reading posts on this forum for about 2 weeks and have decided on about 12 sets of headphones.... Ok, maybe not that many. Of all the posts i've read, I found bits and pieces of what im looking for but then they always end up lacking a major component. So heres my criteria.

I listen to a lot of Rap/R&B and I love my Bass. Overall loudness is key as well. I will be using these on an UNAMPED ipod/iphone. I DO NOT want IEM's. Im looking for circum-aural (not a bad term for a second post ) phones. All of the topics ive found then go on to talk about open cans. I need to be able to seal off outside noise and I also dont want people in surrounding cubicles or seats to have to listen to what im listining to. I do travel (Air/Bus) and work in an office which is why I need isolation. I would like to stay under $150. Ummmm, I think that covers it. Please let me know if you need to know any other info. Thanks in advance!

Welcome.

V6, SRH440, D1001, and M50 should work.

I personally have the K81, and they're bass monsters. Only $55

And do you mind used?

M50 have more bass than SRH440, D1001, or HD448

d1001 + markL mod has great bass, quality and quantity. it was actually a bit too much for me and i consider myself a bass head as well.

I have the M50. I use them on the school bus everyday. They sound pretty damn good, and isolate decently.

He meant the AKG K81Dj. I only have those and the D1001 rebrands (CAL!) and the AKGs absolutely destroy them on isolation.

could be wrong, but another thread mentioned that you need an amp to drive the hd 448's if you're using it with an ipod.

I've looked into that quite a bit (as I just decided to get the HD448s), and while they are harder to drive, it is not impossible. Works for me...

Welcome Bean!

Im liking all the good reviews M50's! The HD448s got some pretty decent reviews as well but I think for the bass, the M50's might be a better way to go. While trying to find some for sale, ive come across the ATH-M50 and the ATH-M50S. What is the S and why are they more expensive? Is it the sport model? Do they come with 17" racing rims?? ; ) Thanks again for all the input.

AKG Personal Audio - K 518 DJ

+1 for the k518. Still one of my favorite closed cans. They have a bass that kicks like a pneumatic drill, great isolation without going IEM, they are easily driven by a dap and they are very sturdy built.

The cons: They are not circum-aural and as they clamp a lot can be a little unconfortable, especially if you have a big head like me. But you can stretch the metal headband a bit...

Cheers
JK

GMP 8.35, or the Ultrasones Pro/HFI 550/580.

M50 -> coiled cable
M50s -> straight cable

The straight cabled version is more expensive at some stores for no reason... You can find a lot of stores that sell them at the same price...
I got mine (M50s) from ebay, and I kinda like them

The little fiio e5 will make a huge difference with the 448's They really don;t open up on a portable without an amp, and the e5 is plenty good for that purpose.
