Hey, I'm looking for the best DAP in 3 categories.

I tried researching this through the web but I have the attention span of a

.....ooOOOoOo bunny! falallallahala

But seriously, I'm looking for a portable media player that has to have the following:

1. sound quality

2. touchscreen

3. wi-fi /wlan

4. at least 16GB

I was thinking Sony X series, Zune HD, Samsung or even an iPod Touch

p.s. should I get an amp?

Sorry about the laziness

X-series.

And if you have enough cashmoney, go ahead and buy an amp (especially if you have high-impedance cans)

delete samsung, it doesnt have Wifi

i vote for X

I absolutely LOVE my Zune HD. I think an important note to make is that the a/v docking station has an optical output.

I can only compare with the ipod touch. IMHO, the touch performance and the audio quality as superior on the HD. The screen on the HD is almost terrific.

The browser on the HD (bing mobile) is decent, but for some reason, I found it easier to navigate on the ipod touch.

The Zune HD will not let you see hidden SSID's. You should never hide your SSID unless less you also have a password on it anywhere though.

I have the X and iPod touch :P

1. Sound quality: Toss up really, Touch does't hiss with my westone um3x, my X1060 does. However, amped with my p-51 mustang neither hiss. I personally cannot tell a difference in details.

2. Touchscreen: Definately Walkman X, MUCH superior. I prefer to use it portably because it is a smaller player anyway and I don't need a huge scree with me. Bad thing is that OLED is bad in sun light, my Touch is quite a bit brighter but a lot less detailed IMO.

3. Wifi: Definately Touch, i LOVE the browser but in all honesty, buying the touch over the walkman just for wifi seems pretty pointless really, that's unless YOU need it. I would just use my Nokia N95-3 for Wifi.

One thing IMO that the Walkman X is much better in from other DAPs is its build. I love the 'graphite' trim and black body. It also has a nice sparkly in the sun and the hold button is rather large, easy to find It also has extremely handy hardware buttons on the topof the player next to the perfectly placed HP out. The buttons are 'Next song, play/pause and previous song'.

It really depends on what headphones you have - could you list them?

Coming from a long line of button UI DAPs, I don't like the Touch. They could have easily tossed in physical buttons for next and previous songs so I don't always have to go digging in my pocket and pull it out, use the stupid lock drag button and then wait for my playlist display to fix itself back for vertical view rather than horizontal, which usually requires me wiggling it around.

The only function I can say I actually appreciate is the web browser. To be honest, I would have bought a Fuze with a 16GB card if I could go back in time.

Headphones:

1. I found my dad's original version of the Bose QuietComfort's he never used (don't worry I'm not going to use them)

2. 2 pairs of the philips around ear, in-ear phones for running: Attachment 23445

3. a pair of philips assymetricalAttachment 23446

4. I'm looking for some cans, either

AKG
Tower Records Dublin Ireland

Panasonic
Urban Outfitters - Panasonic RP HTX7E Blue Headphones

or

Philips
hmv.com: technology: headphones: Browse

they're cheap because I plan to blow my budget on random curios

:O
Go to the Portable Headphones section and look for better headphones (I suggest taking a look at joker's budget thread) - they'll be better value too.

But anyways, looks like you won't need an amp.
